First off, I know this prob. shouldn't be in this section, but, I thought maybe I would get a better response here. Ok, I have an Autotek XS1500.1 and the problem sometimes when I turn it on it goes into protection mode. I'm think that maybe it's a factory defect because a friend of mine has some Autotek XS1700's and they do the same thing. Does anyone know why they do that or know what I could do to fix them? I don't know all that much about electronics, but I'm learning. (Going for Electronics Tech. in college) Maybe someone could shed some light on what would cause an amp to do this?

sorry, havent checkt the board on a long time ( an ide for the one who run this? what about geting the posts you are interested in on e mail??)

but back to the problem... tell me a litle more, do you have the speackers conected??? what about the input voltage?? a comon fault is to big voltage loss in the wires make it dip under 12v but if this hapens at once, eaven when te car is runing I am woring more about the earth cable, it is a common plase of fault, measure that the voltage on the amp never is under 12v.... I have never seen this amp and if you have any info on it, I could mabe help you more... how about swithes to determine speaker resistance?

YES,the speakers were connected. not sure what the voltage is now, but, used to be about 13 with the car off and 15 with it running. I have 4 extra batteries in the back and the amp is hooked directly to the batteries. I have never had a problem with any other amps in there before. A friend of mine had several Autotek XS-1700's that did the same thing. I have also heard of several other people that have had the same problem.

Eric,

I worked with the first series of Autotek amplifiers back in the day. We did experience several faulty amplifiers. When we ran low impedances, the low Z protection circuit would burn out (these anoying high power resistors on the output stage of the amps). Usually the problem would be intermittent and it would always culminate by kicking into protection all the time. Maybe the company has put their foot into the same bucket once more. Contact Autotek and see what they have to say. Hope you are still under warranty. What load are you running and what is the amp suppossed to handle?

Skipper
