I want to use 2 JL Audio 12W3-D4 subs
and I read that the
recommended sizes for one sub is
2.0 cubic feet
and 4" port that is 15.4" long

How does this sound and does anyone have
any other sugguestions about how this box would sound better.

If you're looking for a little more 'hammer' pare that port down to 8" long.

It'll sound great at JL's specs, but it will play louder (and less deeeeep bass) with the shorter port......

Shorter port=Higher tuning frequency=Higher SPL. Be very careful with tracks containing very low frequencies. Subs lose control and die.

Thanks for the info Dukk

When you use a ported box you should really use a subsonic filter right..
Well the only processors that I use for my
low frequencies are my epicenter
which has a subsonic filter in it but I don't know what frequency it cuts off at..
and then the subwoofer output from my Clarion EQH5100 which has a high pass and low pass crossover and sub voloume control and switch able to play either stero/mono/off

8" gets you a 39 Hz tune. You could compromise and go 11" for a 35Hz tune and get the real deep stuff back (especially if you have an epi)

Thanks a lot dukk..
I actually love that real deep stuff
the stuff that's just vibrating and you can't really heard it but you can feel it really good..
