Can I set up a 12v Op-amp in a voltage follower config and use it in place of a relay on, oh lets say, a remote turn on on a head unit? Thanks!

yes.... you could, but you would need a high power op-amp to make sure you didn't blow it.. also all assume from what you said the op amp would always be on... but only output a signal (+12v) when triggered by the decks remote turn on. in that state it would draw a small amount of power (probably very very small, but it would depend on the op-amp)
I've never actually thought of doing that, but yes if wired correctly there's no reason why it wouldn't work, upto a certain power level.

Umm, Your doing a comparator right. I think most op-amps do about 20ma. A Transistor would be easy. You could use just a single mosfet as a switch if you wanted.

Why not just use the regular remot turn on. you need it anyway to turn on an op amp or FET. Are you worried about turning on a lot of equipment?

Ya, I just remembered that you just switched to an EE major. my bad.
I'll look for a FET you could use and tell you what to do with it if you want.

Guess I should clarify a bit more. I was planning to use the remote turn on, on the head unit as the turn on for the op-amp, cause I've offically blown the remote turn on my deh-46 twice now in 4 months...hehe..with only two amps..sooo..and I'm too cheap to buy a relay. That, and I wanted to see if I could do something cool with this 53 cent little thingy lol. Thanks for the input

hehe, cool, I actually thought of something useful
