Do any of you know of a good book or perhaps a link that could help with the usage of an rta? I know a **little** but could definitely use some guidance.

I need a good test disc reccomendation also. If it's just pink noise I need, I can produce that myself.

Thanks a million,

Andrew.

Yeah.. Pink noise with all bits high is generally the best thing to use with an RTA to my experience.. Basically, you set the microphone where you expect to have your rta taken (or listening position, whichever).. When you play pink noise, this should register a response on the RTA graph... Then, you simply make sure there is no other source of noise in or around the car, and adjust the EQ to flatten response.. It should have ~30 frequencies that it reads, a corresponding EQ would be centered at approximately the same frequencies.. Its pretty easy. If you have the capability, you can just use one side of your car for rta testing, so you can tune each side independantly and then together for averaging..

Anybody disagree??

Thanks ShadowStar.

I had a feeling I might get a prompt and intelligent response from here. I love this place.

Thanks again,

Andrew.

I think it's VERY important that you know something more than what SS said.... Instead of trying to bring the response dips up to meet the peaks, try bringing the peaks DOWN so that you dont add too much of any particular band. That said, have fun!

Audiophyle:

Thanks for your help and comments. I was actually intending on using the rta to smooth out dips and and identify sloppy crossover settings that overlap. My intent was to flatten the response curve by trying to bring down the peaks and compensate for the drops.

I will letcha know if I can half-way fake my way through this...

Andrew.
