In my MECP Study Guide it says:

"Since power is equal to E*I, and we know from Ohm's Law that E = I*R, P = I*R*I or P = I^2*R."

Using this formula with a Punch Power 1100a2 running @ 2ohms:

P = 100amps^2 * 2ohms which is 20,000 of something. I know it's not watts.

I just dont understand! could someone clarify this for me?

Bringing back fond memories of Electrical Engineering class. Lemme give it a shot.

P=VI (voltage times current)
1 W = 1 V * 1 A (watt=volt*amp)

V=IR (voltage equals current times resistance)
1 V = 1 A * 1 ohm

Your formulas and theories are correct, I am just unsure as to where the 100 amps is coming from. If that is the fuse rating of the amp, then the efficiency needs to be accounted for.

There is no way that you could run 100 amps to an actual speaker. The above equation (i^2R) needs to include the amperage going to the speaker, not coming into the amplifier.

Pout = Pin * n (power out = power in * efficiency)

Pout = (14.4 V * 100 A) * 80 % = 1152 Watts

P=I^2*R works if you relate voltage to I

I like ti (incorrectly) use V for voltage since it lessens confusion.
Set your DMM to AC voltage, play 60Hz sine wave and measure it up. Now the tricky part is to determine exactly what the impedance of he box is at 60Hz....... hint: it ain't 2 ohms!

And that's the bottom line, cuz:
