Horns can be damn loud. They have two drawbacks. 1. Very complicated, difficult to get right. 2. They sound nice. That cant be right for a high scoring box.....well im sure that when they get even louder, they will sound just as pants.

You should get ahold of db Don and work with him on it. He's in Canada also (eh?).. LOL J/K. and quite the SPL horn authority it seems...Also I would be interested in formulas for designing horn enclosures if anyone could show me where to get started..

What vehicle have you got? as horns are quite large - And you are thinking about 4 18s!!!
If you compromise a horns size, you will compromise a horns efficiency. You may want to first think about 2 18s. Ask db don about his bandpass horn, as it is a tad smaller than my conventional horn.

Ben, from what I'm learning about horns so far(which isn't much yet) efficiency suffers when you decrease the horn size, even folded horns. I think they are saying that for 4 18s horn loaded, you would have to chop the relative enclosure size down so much that you would lose the benefits of the design. I don't know, maybe db DON knows something I didn't cover there.. Dukk is probably right but it is always worth it to at least explore all the possibilities..

You can shrink them if you do it right, however then they stop acting like a horn and start acting like a long tube. There should be enough room. There's enough room behind the seat of an S-10 pickup for 2 horn boxes (for 12s) and still keep the passenger side jumpseat functional. I only have one box in there now (I have a new design for the 2 sub box), and you can see my scores below.
