I haven't been able to find anything on how to do the vid mod. I used to know how to, but now I have one and I've forgotten how. Please help. Any info welcome, or point me in the right direction. I know someone out there knows how to do this. If it's easier for you, email me directly: audionut1@webtv.net

Thanks much!

Thanks a lot, jc2. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I hope it works. I can't believe there isn't any more info out there on these considering how popular they are (or were). I also find it hard to believe that no one else on Termpro has done this and is willing to share. Anyone else?

If I had one you can bet it would already be modified, I try not to keep anything stock.

I connected a video source to the green shielded wire, I get video for an instant, but the 1000 says "no nav unit connected" and reverts back to the blank / background screen. I might just buy the shop manual for the nav unit to see which wire is used for the trigger to trick the 1000 into playing video. Thanks again for the assistance. If anyone happens to have the manual, or even the nav unit, please let me know.

Thanks,
Brad Marks

On one of the threads on the link I gave you they were talking about certain units needing a trigger on another wire. You might want to look through the threads again and maybe email one guy on there that seemed to know what he was talking about.

Yeah, I read through all the threads, but no details. I also emailed each of them for details, but no response yet. Unfortunately, the posts are pretty old. Actually, the mod I saw before was to the nav input. This was video and the trigger. The mod in the post you referred me to has video input into the cable between the display and the tuner (brain). I think the tuner handles most of the switching because it has all the major connections (Ai-net, nav, preouts, etc).

I've had quite a few people contact me regarding the mod, so here it is. It's actually pretty easy. This may not work in your application due to possible changes in design over the years. Also, perform this mod at your own risk. I assume no liability whatsoever in the damage of your CVA, or any events which occur because you are watching a movie while cruising down the interstate! This is for informative purposes only.

1) Take the cable between the tuner & the monitor and strip the cable jacket back to expose the rest of the wiring inside. There is wire braid surrounding these as well, but the braid isn't grounded anywhere so don't worry too much about it.

2) Find the shielded wire with the green center lead. This is your video input. Center conductor is video signal, and the shield is the video common. If you are using a Nav set, you can use a switch & relay to alternate between nav video, and your other video source.

3) At this point you need to trick the monitor into accepting the video signal. This can be done by using a +5vdc voltage regulator (cat no. 276-1770A) from Radio Shack as the trigger. This will need to be applied to the White/green trace lead from the monitor connector. You will need to put a switch on this to turn the trigger on and off so you can use the rest of the functions on the CVA.

4) Simply run audio into the Alpine aux input adaptor which uses the Ai-net.

There may be other ways of modding it, but this is the way I did it. If you have any questions, email me. I'll try to help. If you use your imagination, I'm sure you can come up with other uses for switches & relays.
