Hmm I got looking around for that RF modulator and there are sooo many. But I did find a circut layout of one "for VCR tho" and it doesnt look to hard to make. Can you post the circut layout for me or tell me where I can get the RF modulator I need. Thanks!

Actually I would recommend using a actual FM modulator. If what your referring to is a vcr modulator for TV it isn't the right frequency. I plan to do a little research but I'm a little tied up at the moment.

I have a Alpine 7839 head unit. Im tring to get a computer to work in a car. I have already got it to work now im tring to make the music form the sound card go through the head unit so it goes to the subs/mid/high ect. ect. So Tech suggested getting a RF modulator so the signal form the sound card appears to the head unit as a Radio Station.

Just a though.. Why don't you run a line direct from the computer to your crossover/amps?
MP3's already lack CD quality sound, but after modulation and the quality of the average (and above average) FM tuner, you might as well be playing a bad tape.
It would be a very nice thing if you could make your computer into your head unit, with a special keyboard/mouse thingy... That be hard to do though... You could intergrate it with your CD player even... Wow, this is a cool idea!
Good Luck dude!
And also, check out MOTORIZ, the toyota with a Pentium 90 installed in the glove box.

There was a Sound Stream Van at the USAC Nats. the one with the 16 mules, it was running a computer for the head unit the screen was mounted in the Dog house and they had a key board to change Albums. The guy said that they had like 200+ cd's in the van for access.

My suggestion would be to find a head unit that has auxillary inputs, or use a Nakamichi PA-1 pre-amp, which has Auxillary inputs, master volume, the whole works....

Audiophyle, that had been my first suggestion but he has some of his mid/tweets running off of his deck. So that idea (and shadowstars) was nixed.

I'm not sure anyone makes these anymore, but, If you could find a deck with an eq loop, that would fix the problem. You could run line out of deck to pre-amp, then everything into pre-amp, and back out to eq input on deck. Sherwood made a deck that had an eq loop at one time...

Yah, the eq-loop would work. Would it be wise to just hard-wire the sound card to the deck via the sound-out port on the card and into the deck, as suggested above? But, take the speakers off of the deck and put them onto a 25 - 50 x2/x4 amp? If you're looking at plugging that much money into it anyway, the additional cash for a small amp shouldn't put you that much over budget.
Shouldn't the little MD/Tape input in the back of most decks be switchable? So that you can run your tape/cd deck, cd-changer, and portable MD player through your system. You just hit your keypad/function key on the control deck and go to the right sound format.
Good luck My brain's fried.....finally figured out how to convert MS Pub 98 to PDF, no brain cells left!!! beer = good

Well this is just a shot in the dark, but is there anyway I can wire it from the sound card into the cd-changer imput on back of head unit. Ive never used a cd-changer or looked at the guts of one, but im assuming there is a signal for + - just for the music. I have a ALpine 7839 there is one looks like a ground ring then about 5 different peices of metal sticking out. If that made any since : ) If not look at your own head unit hehe.

I've finally got my computer hooked up to a home stereo, such a nice change from horrible computer speakers.
That computer in the car thing sounds like a great idea, but without some sort of line level input at the deck level, how could you do it? As far as the cd changer, on many cd players you can change tracks and stuff with the deck, meaning it also sends signals, which probably would eliminate that option.

War thats what I was tring to explain. The cd-changer just doesnt have 1 set of - and + like the audi signal input on a amp where you plug the RCA in. this has about 7 different female connectors set into 1 connection. So im hoping 1 set is for Audio Signal and 1 set for the change cd function and 1 set for ect ect...
