The last time I used this in my car there was a problem with a weriod humming sound coming from my subs. It's sounds like a ground loop. I haven't used it for a while and the other day I hooked it up again.
well that sound is still there.
I stopped by a couple of shops we talked about it for a while and we finally came to the conclusion that it was caused a while back when I was running my A600.2 before I sent it back to get fixed.
well the installer said that the amp might have send some voltage back thru the rcas when it broke down and fried grounds in the sub output of my EQH-5100
He told me to take it apart and check for burnt out grounds near the output and just touch them up with some solder.
Does this sound like the case? He seemed really knowledgable and they were even a clarion dealer. He told me it's not worth sending it back and paying at least $90.00 becasue it just ran out of warrenty
I was surprised to hear this from a dealer..

I'm not an electrical engineer, but I HAVE heard of people burning or damaging the ground tracer on their deck.. The trace does not carry much current at all... My own CD player did much the same thing, however the preamp caught on fire and smoke poured out of the unit. In your case, it IS possible that this happened, however, I don't know if I would try to do it myself if I didn't know how. But, yeah, that IS a possible problem! :-)

I smoked my 920EQ when my amp ground went bad and my amp grounded through the RCA cables and into my EQ. So the shop says, but I still think they sold me a bad EQ.
I had a ground loop (humming, thumping in my subs) and fixed it with a (Sosche) Ground Loop Isolator. They are at Wal-Mart and cost about $12. Put it either the main RCA from your deck or on your sub RCA. Dukk says these isolators usually kill bass, but that did not happen to me. Hey, if it doesn't work you can take the isolator back.

Ground traces get burnt on all kinds of preamp equipment all the time. Some stuff can be more susceptable than others. Posts: 926 | From: Sugarland, Tx | Registered: May 1999
