Okay I finally got my hands on a decent multimeter. It reads Volts, Ohms,Farad "OOO", Amp, and frequency. Now I know enough about electricity to do something but the methods it shows to take reading for Ohms just doesnt seem right. it says to to put positive to positive side and disconnect the negative side and put the negative form the multimeter at the break. If you can understand what I just said please tell me if that is right and if it isnt what is the correct way. Also Im tring to get A reading on the Pre-amp volts but that isnt working ethier so explain that please: ) Thanks

What are you taking a reading off of. The book tells you to disconect the neg. so to issolate the circut. if you dident isolate then you whould be geting a reading of the hole piece of equipment. As for the pre amp voltage I have never done that.

What Capple said.
You have to isolate the item your taking
a reading off of or you'll get a combined
reading. Disconnecting one wire from a
2 wire circuit will allow you to make
accurate readings. You've effectively isolated it.
What are you measuring in ohms?

An easy way is to get ahold of a disc with 60hz tones, and play them. Simply put the negative to the outside ring of an RCA and the positive to the center post and play the 60 hz tone, set the meter to AC Voltage.
