How do you figure out the optimum power to put to a sub. I mean, how do you figure out how much power you need to deliver to get the sub to xmax, and how do you deal with all the other stuff, like Vas, that affect the performance?

What I do, is simply get an amplifier that will provide RMS about 4/3 the RMS power rating of the driver. Because power handling is more a function of the signal (crossover) and the box, those components affect the output MORE than the amplifier size.
