Well hmm..I dont see y not. But as you said heat is a problem. I dont know...would the resistance on a dummy load also increase as the heat increases?

That is feasible, but I do see a few problems. 1) Unless your amp makes more than double its power into the lower impedence then you will actually have less power going to the sub. Assuming that the sub and load are the same resistance, then the power will be split evenly between them. I thought about this before, but after doing the circuit analysis I didn't gain any power to the sub, actually lost some. Either get another sub, or another amp, as I didn't see a way to make the load work. Just my opinion.

P.S. I'd like to think I know a little about electronics, I had an electrical engineering circuit analysis class, and a degree in engineering.

It is not good to hook up a dummy with a sub, i don't know of many amps that gain more than double the power by halving the impedence. It could accutaly cause the amp to over heat from excessive heat. The dummy load dosn't change impedence and a speaker does. There is no logical reason to use a dummy load with a speaker on an amp, it only draws more current than needed!

well, if you would read the It Could Only Happen To Me Post, you would have your answer to the heat problem, ice packs, wow, you guys are bad, just stick some ice and your fine

and so you know, this is sarcastic

Well.. First, the dummy load would HAVE to be a wire wound resistor..

Second- You would have to take into consideration that, at frequencies where the driver has VERY high resistance, I.E. resonance, the load which is fixed impedance would recieve 70% of the power, or so... Not a good thing :-)

If you want to try it, tell us how it turns out :-)
