Ok here's an off the wall topic, Dee and I were passing it through, I forget some details. How about a sealed box, that is filled with a heavier than air (non-flammable) gas?

Just think how much spl you could get if you used a flammable gas. Maybe if we ran some tubing into the box from a catch bag under the driver's seat, and a trio of bridged humungophile amps pushing a 4 inch, 3 watt woofer, while playing a heavy rap metal protest song - - - - - -

If you could keep the enclosure sealed I think the only difference would depend on how easily the gas is compressed. If it is compressed easier than air you could run a smaller box.

Yes, PA, what you say makes sense. You are going to totally change the response characteristics of whichever driver you plan on putting in your gas chamber. It's going to be damn near impossible to make this work, paper cone woof's do leak, foam surrounds do leak, you will get small leaks from the screwholes, and some woofers have a vent on the woofer cone it's self for the voice coil. If you could make it work, you would then have to take new measurements of the driver in question in free-air in a room filled with the same gas as you planned on having in the box, pressurized to atmosphere, then build the box according to your new measurements. I would suggest you stay away from Hydrogen if your going to try it... although, you would have a built in cooling system, well, after the fire is out anyway....

That is what I thought Audiophyle. It does not seem like it would be worth the trouble to get it correct to change the air in the box. But who am I to say..
