I was going to run a 16 volt battery system but i have one problem is finding a battery charger to recharge them. I was going to take 2-8volt batteries and rujn them in series to get 16 volts and run 12 batteries to power 8000 watts rms of power but the problem is finding a battery charger becasue i dont want to run it off the alternatore system. Icant charge it at 18 volts becasue the batteries have the plates inside really close which could cause them to bend or ruin the plates inside and this guy at a store told me I could use an amp charger that charges 6 amps an hour to every battery but i dont know if that will keep track of the voltage and if it will work but it will take a long time to charge up like 10 to 20 hours.

Ok ben here you go ..there are 2 ways to do this 1. go to walmart ( im serious) and buy the largest schumacher battery charger they have . it is unregulated and on the 200amp start maode it will charge up to 17.8 volts for about 1 hr before it will shut off cool down then cycle again this shiould work fine ive used mine this way and have seen several ppl do this same thing ..cost bout 100.00.
2 find a local battery company and inquire about a charger which should have the following specs 12/18/24 volt charging ability they make them but the are about 300.00 and put out the same current as the walmart one benifit you can charg continus at 18v no prob but its 200.00 more and harder to find..but there are your options hope this helps

well you can try one of Jacobs Accuvolts but there like $500 or something, get a high output alternator and a regulator that will let you charge at 16 volts and you'll be cool

I was told i cant recharge these batteries i was looking at near 18 volts due to the fact that the plates are so close i could cause them to blow up. The yare Trojan batteries and i ws also looking at westco. But I guess this is where it gets harder and where the studying will pay off. SO anymore help then
I will call trojan and ask them what i can do about that and hopefully it is good news.

Well like Teamxtreme said. They work great. We dont have that brand on the truck in the links below but same deal. We have had the batteries up to 19.1 on the charger. And it rests at about 17.5 off it. Now that we got the dam problems on the truck solved.

I have a 16 volt system and i charge them with a cheap battery charger from K-Mart, Exide brand. At the 40 amp mode it does about 18 volts into them and at the 200 burst mode it does about 19.5 volts, Havent' had a problem yet with this setup.

Well i finally decided on a setup I am going to do 12 8 volt batteries and when I am recharging them I will hook 3 batteries up in series and recharge them at 24 volts then un hook them and run them at 16 volts again. It is fun taking them apart and putting them back togetehr again and smart at the same time you dont have to pay a lot for a charger.

You might not want to unhook those batteries all year, connectors wear out and risk of shorting out or hooking up backwards(loose conectors for someone to play with! )
I just got a battery charger from K-Mart and it works great, but do what you want, just my opinion.
