Hey techman, you seem to be the resident "know everything" just wondering what you like to use as a power supply for op-amps, i've used a few dif methods, dc-dc converters... and pos/neg (7815/7915) regulators off the supply rails of an amp.... ideas?
thanx man

Yikes, resident know everything?
Sounds loaded....
Anyway, I've used both your methods...
You got an amp there anyway, add a 7815 and
7915 and use that to power some op-amps your
adding for whatever purpose. And of course
you could always regulate without IC's by
using Zener diodes, transistors and a few
support components.

Building a conventional DC to DC coverter is
also a good way to go. I prefer the TL494
and always use mosfets to do the power
switching. I prefer allowing regulation as
well. Then just build to size.

There is another form of supply utilizing
a quad nand gate and some diodes and caps
to make a voltage doubler. This allows a
real simple way to come up with + and -
supply greater than 6 + 6, but not as high
as 15 + 15. I could try to get a schematic
up if you would like. This is definitely a
more generic way to get the job done.

thanx Tech... schematics to any and all of those would be great...
basically i need two power supplies.. one to power a single op amp.. for a line driver.. and one to power multiple opamps... for an eq.. and what op amps do you like?
have you played with the Burr Brown opa134 series... very nice.. and inexpensive
later

ahh, what the hell do you know anyways
tech, get this guy some specs, I want to try out his line driver when it's finished. It'll be his team hertz initiation project

I'll work on it tonight.
I generically use 4559's for general
purpose use. (common op amp in mid-line
amps) and The TL072/074 for higher level
work (fet type op amp)
I don't do high end SQ work in custom
electronics so I never try to push the
limit in op amp spechs. I'm generally
doing SPL projects when it comes to custom
circuitry. This of course doesn't require
much SQ...burp burp.

This is a short sweet to the point device to
bridge most mono amps to each other when
they don't already come with a switch. Like
the RF mono-blocks. I believe moneybag used
this to put his memphis together and this
will work with old amp that don't have
bridging built in, like old orion amps that
need a bridging module. This circuit takes
into account use of a standard dual op amp
like the 4558, 4559, 1458 or any other similar
type. You will need at least a + and - 9 volts
to operate this and I would suggest a + and
- 15 volts to allow work with high line decks
or line drivers.
Hope this helps

This circuit is good for a + and - 10 volt
supply (or so). This circuit has been around
for a while and does a satisfactory job. Some
of the cheaper manufacturers will even use
this to power an entire multi point x-over so
you get the just that this can drive many op
amps.

This is an abbreviated (read incomplete)
schematic for an all out dc to dc switching
supply. You have a pwm ic, mosfet switches,
a toroid transformer, well the list goes on.
This project is for the advanced so I wouldn't
suggest it to anybody to hasn't built some
intricate stuff.
I can work up a complete schematic if you want..
It will take a while since I don't have one
worked up that isn't designed for an amp instead
of a preamp.

Let me know if there are any questions.

thanks man
I'll play around with the middle one.
would work great for a x-over/small eq
but there would be a limit to the input/output signal.. your bridging module is almost the same as what i designed... (when I get my 1000D's) I just used a Quad op amp and gave it some gain too.. but i guess that's my habbit of turning everything into a line driver.

Hey Techman one last thing.
the cap in the middle diagram
bottom left... 470pF? or?
and what transistors do you usually use for that?

If I remember right it's a .oo47uf cap,
mylar. The transistors or general purpose
use, I use the 2SC1027 and 2SA1023 since
these are cheap and everywhere. You can
sub if you want without a problem
