Hello guys,

I'm laying out a large enclosure (around 35ft3), and it seems like the only way to fit the amount of port area I want in it is to either port multiple sides of the box (IE: Both the front face and the top), or to basically cut a slot that runs from the bottom of the front face, up to the top, then continues back on the top of the box lid, towards the rear of the box. (Essentially an "L" using both the front and the top of the box - Think of it as a slot port on the front face, and a matching slot port on the top face, that line up with one another... then cut out the space between the two to connect the ports, forming one large port.) Either way it involves ports on more than one side of the enclosure.

My question is twofold. First, is this something that can be done? I have never seen an enclosure that is ported on two separate sides, but it seems like it should work in theory. Am I missing something? Second, if I was to make the "L" shaped port that connects the front and top box faces, would the port area act like the sum of the two 90 deg. runs added together, or the hypotanuse of the theoretical triangle that would be formed by connecting their outermost points?

Sorry if my explanations are confusing, hopefully it makes sense to someone out there.

Thanks,

Hans

In theory it will work a port is a port as long as its the specified size. i built a box once that i took the port and wrapped it all the way around the enclosure, basically two five ended boxes together, it could be tuned by pulling the inside box out of the inner, it was an eye catcher to say the least i put some neons inside it and it looked like the box was floating inside.... hope this helps you, i have found myself that the only way to know if it is going to work is to do the work and test it. i have wasted alot of mdf trying out stuff. but that is the only way i know of to get loud.......
