How exactly does one determine if an amp is a monoblock or an internally bridged 2 channel?

I have 2 amps sitting here looking at me (Cadence Z100 Ultra Drives) and Im trying to figure out if they can be bridged via a bridging mod. To do this I must be certain that they are true monoblocks first. How do I ascertain if they are or not via a practical hands on method?

wow this forum has freakin died which is pretty sad....

I was told that a 2 channel will have 4 power rails and a monoblock will have 2 power rails.

On my own I have also discovered that 2 channel amp's stereo channels that get left empty when bridged, show continuity to ground.

Based on these two findings, I believe that the Cadence z100 is actually a 2 channel amp that's been internally bridged and capable of operating in to 2 ohm mono....

look up the opamps and see if they are dual or mono.

or follow the center conductor of the rca's and see how they terminate to the opamps.

or see where the output connectors meet the pcb outputs.

or take a dmm and measure the resistors on the trans/fets.

class a/b:
for a two channel with trans/fets on both sides there is usually a negative and positive rail per side.

stick the negative lead on the shield ground of the rca and the red lead to the resistor leading to the 3rd leg

for a amp with 10 trans per side it will usually look something like:

-----+++++
-----+++++

for a mono amp:

----------
++++++++++

beware though, some amps are pure N-channel devices with the other polarity outputs inverted through the transformer...eg; rockford uses this topology on some of their amps.

Proceed with caution when you feel me hittin at the stoplight...
