last night i was installing an amp 1200 rms and didn't have a distro block that would let me run four guage to it. Since i knew it would be driven lightly i put two eight guages from two points on a four point distro block, with a fuse on each.
So, the amp doesnt work, light comes on, then dims, and one of the two fuses on the wire going to it blow. The fuses on the amp stay fine, no issues whatever.
A friend with a lot of experience told me never to run two eight guages, that a single would have been better if i couldn't run four guage. I've done the double up eight guage before with no problems, what could potentially go wrong here? Why would two eight guage wires fused be worse for an amp than a single four guage or eight guage, he said both were better.

if you have the 8ga fused then the fuse is only allowing that much power 1 4ga= 65 amp 1 8ga= 23.6 amp 2 8ga will flow47.2 amps and a 1200watt peak amp will need like 120 amp draw
the MECP guide states that the AWG rating you need for a 1200w peak amp is 0ga (150amp) 2ga (90amp) with o ga use a 120 amp fuse, if you use 2ga use a 90
if you fused each wire i think you are chocking the flow at the fuse. take the fuses out and put the wires together and see if that cures the problem. also if you have two 8ga in you need 2 8ga going to ground. good luck keep us posted on whether it works or not.
