Do they have any caps I can use for hi-pass filters? I was looking at the 220 uF caps to block bass from my 4x6's in my doors. From what I've figured out, the 220 will pass 180 hz and over. RIGHT??
Help guys!!
I can't afford an electronic crossover OR blown speakers.

yes, a 220uf capacitor in series with a 4ohm speaker creates a high pass of 180hz at 6db per octave.

if you can find them at radioshack, try to use 100v caps. the 50v caps scare me when they explode on even moderate amps. i like to grab all of my pieces parts for building filters (i pride myself in building my own passive filter networks) from www.partsexpress.com

i know they have exactly the values i need for every component in my filters. radioshack is really hit and miss.

don't forget to use non-polarized capacitors.

Ohoh, the only ones they had were polarized.
The values I got are: 220uF 35v for 180hz, 100uF 35V for 397 hz, 470uF 65v for 85 hz, and 10uF 100v for 3795 hz.
Can I use these for now? Just gonna use them with my head unit. No amp. When I get my amp I'm going to use an active crossover. Unless I can build a sweet passive system!

I forgot about the assorted box of caps I got.
The values are:3300uF 16v,1000uF 6.3v,33uF 16v,228uF 100v,and 10uF 47v all polarized.
Can I use any of these on a car audio project??
