The following is an example but i'll get to the fact in just a sec.

I have been told that if I were to want 4 Alts, let's say 220A per alt, comparing the 4.3L V6 Blazer to a 5.xL V8 Tahoe, the blazer's engine would stall or if it didnt, it would become so stressed, i would not be able to drive it properly.

Now, having said that, when specs on a vehicle consider this fact to be true?

When specs on a vehicle do i need to look at to determine a vehicle that is strong for me? Please do not just name vehicles because price is an issue, i need information to do the research myself.

Is the Horsepower rating relovent? Is it the size of the engine? certain Liter and cylinder for a certain amperage draw from alt?

Please let me know, thanks.

The more torque your engine has the easyer it will be for it to turn anything mounted to it.

Ah Ha, an answer, thank you. Now the next question -

Pick a vehicle, let's say vehicle A.

Now, let's take the stock torque rating. Taking for granted i can actually find the factory rating somehow(how do i, hehe), what is a torque to amperage alt ratio? How much torque would i need per alt rated at let's say 200A this time.

And how do you know the answer to this if you do?

Ok, now I am completely LOST!

I just got off the phone with Chevrolet and this is basically what was said over the phone-

Me - I am looking for an engine that has a lot of torque considerably at a lower RPM that can handle 2 or even up to 4 alternators without stalling or severe stress to the engine.

Chevy - This would be an aftermarket design and will carry no warranty however if you wanted the dealership to do this for you, there are currently no engines made by Chevrolet that are capable of such design.
(i know there isn't a vehicle by Chevrolet like this)

Me - Yes, i understand I would void any warranty if this was done aftermarket but I am asking what engines are suitable to support such installation?

Chevrolet - We cannot give this information out to anyone even if we did know the answer to your question.

He said something like they can't because they dont want others knowing about it.

Meaning I will never find the answer to this question?

Personaly I think you wory to much [Smile] I have seen civics W/ multipe alts mounted to a stock 1.6L 4banger

I would say call OHIO Generator and see what they say.

a A/C compressor is harder to turn than any alternator. I would say ANY V8 could turn 4 alts with no problem and that a V6 and most 4 bangers could do it.

I just bought a 96 Yukon
that has 250HP and 325Lb. FT of torque. at 2300RPM now that can haul around my 6000LB truck very well. It can trun multiple alts.

Call OHIO Generator, Or the company than makes your alts I'm sure they know how much TQ it takes to turn them, and then check out the cars you like one edmonds.com or just type in the year & modle onto google.com and see how much torque they have to offer.

I think you will need to look prety hard to find a car that can't run 4 alts.

yeah alts dont usually put much stress you can easly spin an alt pully with your hand. waterpumps and power stearing pumps are way more stressfull

OK well thats one extreme. I still think your 55HP metro could turn a few Alts.

Check with your alt manufacturer. see at waht RPM toyr alts put out thier rated power. because buy changing pulley sizes you can over or under drive the alts.

basicly set them up so you get a full charge @ 2000rpm that way you don't waste any HP & TQ over spinning the alts. kind of like not shifthing your car into 5th if you can maintain 55MPH just fine up a hill in 4th.

yes i understand and thank you guys for reassurance.

I will be looking into Trailblazers as that's my affordable price range.

275HP, 275 ft\lbs @3,600RPM
gonna have to get new shocks. It's funny how i know how much weight i plan on using way before i decide to buy one, hehe.

you can only spin an alternator when there is no load on it, the bigger the load the harder it is to spin.

It also depends on the size of the alternator 100 amp, 200 amp 300 amp

I don't remember reading if this will be a ompetition only vehicle if it is you can use different size pulleys to make it easier for the engine to turn the pulleys

Also with out a doubt a diesel engine would be more suited for this type installation they put out more torque and do it at a lower rpm.

When comparing engines the figuire you need is torque at idle not max torque
