I was thinking of making one for my 2500d instead of buying the one from orion.... why could I just use a dimmer switch and wire it up to 3.5 mm mini stereo plug and that work? Any one know the internals of the EGC's and how it all works?

I don't know if that will work, but the sounddomain.com has them for about $30.00.

Man, I'll give ya credit for even thinking of trying something like that. It's a good thing you didn't damage any equip.

Your best/safest bet is to shell out the $$ for the part you know will work and then try figuring out the circuit layout.

if you have the right parts, you wont hurt nothing. ha to be the right valued potentiometer for it to work, if its the wrong value, you wont notice any changes. make sure that when you have it turned clockwise, its full value, and turning it counter clockwise cuts the value. thats how you want it wired up, you will only use 2 of the 3 posts. Also, you want to make sure its the audio taper pot, it will be more accurate.
