and..... how.... did you get that answer?
edit: and how many did I actually get right?
I got the answer from the manual that my Behringer DJ mixer came with. When a balanced preamplifier on a mixer peeks, the top and bottom of the AC waveform turns to a triangle wave. Different from many amplifiers where the top and bottom of the waveform will turn to a square wave when the amplifier peeks. When the balanced preamplifier starts to "clip" or go into digital peek the top and bottom of the triangle wave turns to a square wave like an amplifier does when it peeks. Usually, you can not hear distortion in a signal form a balanced preamplifier that is peeking until it reaches digital peek (or “clips”. That is why balanced connections is Professional Audio is preferred over unbalanced connections.
I do not know how many you got right. What were your answers? I will post the questions again.
1. (The following question refers to binary code) Say you tell a computer how many pounds you weigh. The computer then stores your weight on it’s hard drive digitally. Because, it’s digitally stored, it is stored in binary code. The code it stores is “1010111”. So how many pounds do you weigh according to the code?
2. Putting a piece of “P-type” semiconducting silicon next to a piece of “N-type” semiconducting silicon will create a… (The answer is NOT a transistor)
3. Many amplifier manufactures say their amplifiers have a protection circuit in the amplifiers that protect the amplifier if it experiences severe DC offset. How does the protection circuit know if the amplifier is experiencing severe DC offset? In another words… what does the protection circuit look for?
4. What does STR stand for and what do the STR’s connected to the heat sinks in an amplifier do (technically speaking)?
5. An analog waveform coming from an amplifier peeks at +/- 0 dB. When does digital peek occur? It is the same level at which an analog signal coming from an amplifier is considered to “clip” at. Also, I am not looking for a definition. I am looking for a specific number, i.e. + … dB.?
6. Approximately how many octaves starting from 20 Hz. can the average human hear?
7. What will happen if someone parallels a marine deep cycle lead acid 12 volt battery with a gel cell duel cycle (AKA, hybrid) battery?
8. What device is a primitive from of a transistor. It does the same thing as a transistor?
9. Say someone hooked up a speaker to a battery and you were able to reverse the polarity of the speaker back and forth 500 times a second. What would the speaker do? And no the answer is not “blow up” or “make noise”. I am looking for a more technical answer.

are you sure you went to mit? peak on a preamp to where it clips does not have to be 15db... that would depend on the amount of Av that is designed for the circuit. This is the same with digital as it is with analog.
you have all these questions and answers from booklets, but you really need to study them to comprehend what they are saying. or atleast comprehend these types of circuits in general.

#11. why did i plaster a 10,000 watt sticker to the hood.
#12 why do i have "MECP First Class Advanced Installer, MECP Autosound Specialist" in my sig
10. To hold my 12,000 Lb. winch and to protect my SUV in the event of a collision.
11. For the same reason other people put Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio and other brands on their vehicle.
12. For the same reason other people put "160 dB." or "Loudest MECA X2 system in the world"... its all about credentials.
i guess you got #10 right, i cant argue that big ugly rack can probably hold 2 12,000 pound winches. Plus i promise if you get in a wreck your truck wont get a scratch.
#11: wrong, that doesnt answer the question at all. so i guess if each of my big amps are doing 5,000 peak.......that makes 40,000 watts.....my smaller amps make up another 4,000 peak - are you saying it WOULDNT be totally retarded for me to put "44,000 watts" all over the windows and across the hood????? Im calling my sticker guy right now!

No...
If it does push 44kWRMS I would put it on But, you have a nice SUV so it would probly would look better without any vinyls on it. But, I live for SPL comp. so I make sure everyone knows it! Its the only way to live!

Now, I didn't go to MIT, but it's "peak" not "peek"...Hell if they are getting that lax with admissions, maybe I should apply for grad school there...
