I likw the looks of silver wire but I have a few questions. What is coating the copper wire to give it that appereance?

I think what you are referring to is tinned copper giving it the silver look. There is actual silver plated copper as well.

Solid silver is out there as well. I'm sure you could find solid gold and solid platinum conductors if ou were to look hard.

Tinned copper wire, to answer your question, has a coating very similar to solder over the entire surface.
