In terms of easier, assuming, yea. It depends what your amp can accept.
If you are referring to a 2v preout and your amp maxes at 8, you may induce some clipping from the amp. If your amp maxes at 4v, it's fine, for example.
Your head unit won't clip unless you set it up wrong.
How does clipping affect SPL-
well, clipping, a FULL square wave will double the heat going to the VCs of your sub(s). Thus resulting in lower "burping" thermal handling.
