ok my question is how strong is fiberglass, and how thick or how many sheets does it take for it to be strong enough to hold air tight. ive been thinking more and more about and instead of building around the wheel humps with MDF i could do it in fiberglass so it hugs the hump alot more and i can get somemore internal air space also. not quite sure. what do you guys think? to much trouble? and just MDF it around the curves.

Fiberglassing is always fun. Just make sure you have no bubbles between layers and that the mat or cloth gets completely covered in resin. If you can still see white mat or cloth, you didn't get enough resin on it. As far as layers, if you are doing the whole tire well, I would do at least 7-8 layers. Most tire wells are fairly big and your gonna have to get the glass fairly thick to avoid flex. Leaks won't be a problem as long as all your layers are bonded together and no air bubbles form while doing it. I'd get a metal spiked roller for fiberglassing to roll out bubbles as you do it.

well this will be over the side wheel wells. not the spare tire well. so it would only be around the humps so i can get max air space the rest would be MDF. how long would it take to dry? i dont wanna smell it realy. ill probablyspray it with undercoating and cover it with foil.
o shoot........ i might not be able to fiberglass it now that i think about it! im wanting to make a plexiglass view into the box and mirrored every wall. that fiberglass spot might look crapy with the mirror and lighting inside the box. so i might not see a increase in air space if ive gotta make more interioor walls to hide it.
