I'm planning on running 4 12's in a shared ported chamber box. 2 12's will be firing forward and 2 will fire upward. Also i wish to have the ports face forward only. Is that going to be okay or will there be any cancelation because of the directions of the subs. By the way, this will be in a crx. thanks

I would imagine that if you plan on having a pair of woofers firing UP , they will be firing into the roof , and therefore have a different "loading" characteristic than the 2-12's firing FORWARD with the shared port .

I feel that if each 12 was in it's own chamber with it's own port, your results would be better .
Keep in mind that the port will be tuned an octave above or below the tuning frequency of the woofer, so you want it on the same plane for proper output.

The ideal location for a port is "Half the diameter of the woofer away from the cone, and any cabinet wall ", positioned on the SAME PLANE (same side) of the woofer . (almost impossible in any car with woofers in excess of 10inches diameter)
Have you considered any other option ? 6-10's ?

i would personaly never face subs in diferent directions. thier is alot of canceling when doing that. ive never worked in a hatchback so maybe its diferent.... but ive played with directioning in my trunk before and it made a HUGE diference!!!
why not just make a wall for your subs?

I can't wall the crx. So, should i fire all 4 subs upward with the ports upward also? I already have the 4 12s so the 10's are out of the questions.

You can run 4 12's in a typical CRX box. Subs up and ports back. 29x29x14 4 4"x12" ports [Big Grin]
