I am going to change the 6.5 speakers in my neon to either better 6.5s or 8" mid-basses. The criteria is that I can't spend more then $30 on each driver. Because of this I have only a limited selection to choose from. Later I will replace my tweet and build a custom crossover. Here are my options
From madisound silver flutes - either the 6.5" or the 8" on their sale page - PEERLESS 830378 or the VIFA P22WP-01-04 Their madisound sledge hammers are in my price range but noone I know has used them There also seemed to be some other vifas that fit in my price range.
From parts express there are a lot of options but I was looking at the daytons.
On stryke audio there is an 1707 driver that would fit too.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated but please tell me which one you would chose and WHY.

The vifa's, peerless, and daytons are all great speakers. I've looked into the silver flutes before, but have yet to hear them. If you could send me a link to all the ones you are looking at specifically, I could help you out

You seems to know your stuff so I want to ask you if I were to step up to an 8" (which keeps looking like a better idea) what would you tell me to go with. It seems my options are the audax, the VIFA P22WP-01-04 (on madisound sale page), the peerless 831510 and 830411, and silver flute.
Remember the lower the price the better unless you can say that it is def. worth spending the extra money on.

I am also intrested on how you go about picking a speaker for a car audio application. How do I know what specs to look at and what measurement is good for those specs?

I will be at Sound Decision in Montgomery on April 27.

I should be seeing you there then. Look for the 99 neon r/t with the single 15".

To step up to an 8" is gonna require some serious cutting though. This is a new generation neon right? Having much experience with these (my mommy owns one ), you're going to have to go through alot of work to make a cutour big enough for an 8" driver.
Those audax drivers are priced surprisingly low! The only thing is there aren't any real specs lsited on the page .
If you want to stay with something that will work well in the door as it is, try the peerless 833429. It has slightly higher fs than the other 6.5" woofer in the classic line, but it has slightly higher effeciency and will work better in less airspace(which the neon is faily limited on).

I'll take a closer look at it. Atualy though I have a first gen neon. I have been told mounting an 8" wouldn't be hard. I have my pannel of now and with a 3/4" trim ring I should be alright. So what to do then? Do I go with the 6.5" or an 8" and if I move upto 8" what do I pick?

what car audio speaker would you compare the peerless CSX 6.5 inch to as far as sound quality goes? I've heard some good stuff about them but never had a chance to hear one..

That peerless is out of the $30 limit. I really do want to do this cheap. If I'm going to spend $70 on just the mids I might as well go and spend $100 on a mb quart set of speakers.

The only prob I see is that the qts seems a little low. Is there a level of qts I should shoot for (or above?)
