everyone says that this sub is optimized for a small sealed enclosure...so when i went to convert from a 88120.4 to a 88120...and i put the hatchback box into the trunk of a buick centry...and put it to a jbl 600.1(had it on a jl 500/1)...it sounded good...but didnt have enough bass for me anyway...i had it in my chrysler lebaron hatchback...is the box why it isnt having ALOT of bass?? also...when i ran it at 4 ohms(only getting 300 watts) when the head unit was turned up 3/4's and the bass@ (-4) it sounded like a real loud boom box...when i hooked it up@2 ohm(it was seein 600 watts) it did the same thing...so im wondering what could i do to improve this?? or take it out...is it because the highpass filter is set to high on the amp?? keep in mind i didnt install it...my local carshop did...because its freakin COLD...and...they screwed it to the floor...to where i gotta take the amp out the floor just to adjust the stuff on it...it sucks...what could be the cause of this...

anyway...i wanna build a big ported box for this sub...but i dont think its possible...she has a HUGE trunk to work with(90 buick centry)...and i need some box suggestions...

thankx,

Steve

how big of a box is it in? can't tell you if it's the wrong size if we don't even know the size to start with

Linux Airline
Disgruntled employees of all the other OS airlines decide to start their own airline. They build the planes, ticket counters, and pave the runways themselves. They charge a small fee to cover the cost of printing the ticket, but you can also download and print the ticket yourself. When you board the plane, you are given a seat, four bolts, a wrench and a copy of the seat-HOWTO.html. Once settled, the fully adjustable seat is very comfortable, the plane leaves and arrives on time without a single problem, the in-flight meal is wonderful. You try to tell customers of the other airlines about the great trip, but all they can say is, "You had to do what with the seat?"

High pass is for sending the high signals to the speaker. atleast on my pheonix gold amps. You said your using a jbl 600.1? I thought that was a mono sub amp and only played the lower frequencys like 20-250hz?

put the LOW PASS filter(Class D amps don't have high pass filters...hell they only have a range up to 250hz at most)on the amp to about 80hz or so...those subs don't sound too god past about 80hz...also a bigger box could probably help...at LEAST 1.25 cubes per woofer would be ideal..it'll sound a bit better and be a bit louder...

if you build a big ported box for it, make it about 3.5 cubes per woofer at least and tune it VERY low...around 28hz...

First off, class d's only have a low pass filter, goes the only have a bandwidth of 20-250 or upto 500hz on some. Turn the filter down to 60-80hz, having the filter that high will cause cancellation on the higher frequencies, so it can actually make it louder, that's the problem I had with the x/over on the d2, it let too many high notes pass, but the x/over on my HU took care of that. 3.5 sounds kind of big, but I'm sure it'll work. 3.5ft3 w/24-36in of port tuned to anything under 35hz is good. You have the space for it, so you might as well go ported.

Yeah, there are lots of subs that are optimized for sealed boxes but work perfectly fine in a ported application. It's just finding that right box that's the tough part.

I had my eclipse 88120.4 in a 1.9 cu sealed enclosure and liked the sound. I think I talked my friend into filling in the box to make it 1.5 but I haven't heard it in 1.5 yet.
