I was talking to StemyLuv69 (Don) on AIM last night, and he said that a ported L7 with 1000 watts would sound better than a ported IDMax with 1000 watts.

That suprised me, because I always thought of IDMax's as being at the top of the SQ market.

What do you guys think? Which would sound better ported with 1000 watts, and which would sound better sealed with 1000 watts?

i have heard a 12" idmax ported and it sounded pretty darn good. I have heard plenty of kicker L7's ported and they all hit hard as he!! with great sound quality. So from what I have seen They both sound good. just my .02

Ive never heard a MAX personally, but I have heard plenty of L7's, and I dont think they sound that great. I dont know what the big craze is about them. I also heard that the MAX isnt that loud also. But I can not judge a max having never heard one.

Well I can judge a Max since I just installed one. It is louder than my previous 2 12w3's and it sounds a helluva lot better. I have heard L7's and they hit hard but are nowhere near the SQ of the Max..IMO of course. My one Max with 900 watts on it sounds so good I'm debating the need for 2 of them now.

I would go with Kicker......just for the fact that I got three bad IDMAX 12's from ID.....six months they couldn't get me a sub that worked right.......they didn't end up taking care of me like they said they would either.....

Go with a L7

So you prefer L7's because of a bad experience you had with service from ID, or because you think the L7's outperform the Max's?

This argument is pretty retarded if you ask me... no one is actually responding to the first question. Having hear both subs in both ported and sealed enclosures there is not a doubt in my mind which is better. I guarantee you with a 1000 watts in a sealed enclosure the IDMAX will kick the L7's ass. I personally think you cannot even compare the two when it comes to sound quality and as for SPL well that is something that truly depends on the situation the sub is placed in. Overall I would have to say the IDMAX still would outperform the L7 in this catagory. Don't waste your time or you money go with the IDMAX and be happy. As for the guy who said that image's customer service was bad well I have to disagree because I have never had a problem and I am sure if you were persistent they would have solved the problem.

I've nver heard the max but I would go with the L7s, not just because I own them but for the mere fact that I too didn't think much of them when I first installed them.

But the size of the box would make a difference in what sounds like $hit vs what sounds like the $hit

Now this doesn't make sense....your saying he must] be wrong, because you disagree since he had bad customer service out of them? Cool you have had good service, but not all can agree that each time everyone is treaded the same.

never heard em personally, just heard hear say. most of it coming from dealers trying to promote it like the W7, which i didnt like. all i know is that you are the only one will be happy with what you buy, so take the drive and listen for yourself!
remember, if youre the only one that has to be happy with your own shyt!

If you have room, the L7 will get louder. SQ is a matter of opinion. I say get the sub that appeals to you most. Don't let some else make up your mind.

ok lets settle this from someone who has played with both subs many times. The L7 gets loud because of more cone area. The sq of the l7 is nothing compared to the max. The MAX Kills it hands down. As for the max not getting loud pppppppppppllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeasssee, just because people are told that this is a ungodly sub and anything you put it in you will get over 150's with 1000 + watts. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE Any sub needs to have a certain enclosure to excel and the max is not different but in the right box's it gets really loud, low, and SWEET!

I think in an everyday driver with the right enclosure and power, both have awesome SQ. In an allout SPL setup, the L7 would win.

But the setup mentioned will be for an everyday driver...so listen to them in their recommended SQ enclosure and decide for yourself what makes you happy.
