I currently have a Cerwin-Vega HT-12D non-powered sub (about 10 years old) hooked up to my Onkyo (65x5) for my upstairs HT system. The Onkyo feeds power into the the CV and then out to the front Infinity SM-85s (2-way 8s). The Infinity Minuettes and the Infinity Entra Center Two also receive power from the Onkyo.
So far, it's done a nice job. I can't complain too much - sure, extra bass would be great, but with the baby, I won't be cranking it up to 11 any time soon. With that being said, there are some times when I'll be able to have the HT-12D running wide open, but at 65 x 2, wide open ain't overly wide.
For those not familiar with the HT-12D (discontinued), it's a 12" DVC rated at 100 WRMS per coil. I've shaken stuff off walls and shelves with it before when I could give it full power. At full power, it filled a 400 seat cafeteria. Not that I need to shake my townhouse to the ground, nor my neighbors', but I'd like to know that the sub is there whenever the Nakatomi Tower gets a floor blown out or whenever Praxis gets blown in half and Sulu has to surf the shockwave.
To obtain this, without aquiring a new powered sub, I thought that perhaps this would do the trick: AudioSource Amp One. Your thoughts? Other amps in that price range that I should consider? Looking for new, but will consider used if by recommendation and well kept gear.
I know that it's not uber-powerful. Nor is it a NAD or of similar calibre, but it looks like it would do the job and not devour my wallet in the process.
Sub = Cerwin-Vega HT-12D: DVC @ 100 WRMS per Coil. Built-in cross-over: Full in + out to sub + High out to mains. 120 Hz cut-off.
