year 1: get your name known, buy all your stuff, pay big money, compete hard and win. keep winning. go to finals and place top 3. before the next season starts up, email companies that u like, email them a game plan, your vehicle, your competition history all that.
repeat as many times as it takes to get sponsored. I have learned that alot of companies wont sponsor nobodies.

Very well said, you have to be worth something to them meaning you have to prove that you are dedicated and willing to bring lots of good publicity to their product. My shop has sponsored a couple of vehicles but they have to show me that it is worth my investment to do, so I'm sure that big manufacturers are the same way.

Win or do well at major shows. Tell them how you intend to promote their products in a positive light. Have a written proposal including past results and shows you are planning to attend.
Be in the right spot at the right time.

Like the guys are saying, you need to spend and compete to get known, also be at the right spots. A resume of your achievements and future projects. There is alot of ways but you really have to stand out from the pack to get noticed...

i have never had a problem getting buds partial sponcerships. i own a shop and just have to call the co's that i sell. ur best bet is to ask a local shop for help. i help out local guys if they go to comps too. somewhat because they are repet customers but mainly to get more people to the comps in the area, more people more fun...SPLaudio

Equipment sponsorships come in various levels...but the equipment isn't the expensive part. The expenive part comes from installs and traveling.

you got that right, depending on class you can drop 600 or 700 on a box, in wood, caulk, screws, and glue

Id agree with that for SPL but hes doing SQ so his sub/amp install would probably be all fiberglassed (in some cases under plexiglass) which would cost more in the long run.
You really need to ask yourself this "Is it worth being sponsored?" You will need travel to bigger shows, which is all over the nation, display your car at these shows at their booth, and cater to their schedule, not yours. Ive heard that some companies do not pay for your traveling, hotel, food, ect.. You need to see what they do for their sponsored crew if anything.
I agree with everyone else on the getting yourself noticed and whatnot.

Mr. Winslow is 110% right on that statement. Example(A) One MTX 9500 15" might cost five hundred in the store but to MTX, it cost $100-125 but doing the custom install is the killer and companies will most of the time will not pay your travel, hotel and etc...

SPL or SQ...labor is labor, and to do things right and be on the upper levels of competition, it takes money and time. SPL guys spend hours and many dollars building enclosures...we spend hours and many dollars building kickpanels and tuning.
As someone with a couple sponorships (I think my sponors are the best), I would think long and hard about getting yourself in to an agreement with a company...and not knowing the ins and outs of everything.

For those of you that have pondered about getting a sponsorship and dont know how, or some of you that think you deserve one, here are a few helpful hints. #1 Accomplish something. Are you a nobody? Have they heard of you? Do you get noticed? #2 Sell yourself. If you cant sell yourself to them, how are you gonna sell their product? #3 Hold your tongue. I can guarantee you that there isnt one company out there that will sponsor a loudmouth s.o.b. that just makes negative scenes in public or on public forums. As a sposored competitor, you are representing the company. #4 Make a game plan. What comps are you going to? Do you show off your ride or just put a blanket on it at shows? Do you plan on going to finals or springbreak as a competitor? #5 Future plans. Do you plan on competing one year and then getting out or do you plan on staying with the company for awhile? You have to assure them your not in to get frre stuff and leave, that you are not a risk. #6 Keep in contact. You need to let them know how you are doing, how the comps are going, anything your finding out, anything your having probs with, etc. Remember, your just like an employee, you have to show up to work! Same goes for events. #7 Dont burn your bridges!!!!! Some people out there have burned bridges out there with companies that other companies wont even touch em since they heard about it too. If you dont think one company is going to be right for you after giving it a try, give them a shout and let em know whats going on and how to rectify the problem. One thing you dont need is to be the loudest person out there last year and this year you cant get anyone to sposnor you. #8 Dont lie. This world might be big, but there is alot of chatter thru the ranks of competitors and manufacturers. The manufacturers have been around a very long time, and remember stuff that happens. It isnt hard to trace down Event results from a couple years ago to see if you really did place 3rd at world's finals.

VERY well said! When you approach any representative of a company for sponsorship, be respectful, professional and honest with them. Create a portfolio with pics, stats, awards etc. The time you spend on your vehicles should shine through on your presentation as well.
