I now officially want to hear a whale and want to try and break glass damn you and your motivation to ruin things, like dynamite sounds good for blowing some windows out of houses or some such deviant activities i will not take part in LOL

I think when i get a termlab ill get a break away cord and an extra sensor so i can detect the spl of potato guns and maybe retrieve the sensor when the cord tears in half or something like that

310 (N)KRAKATOA VOLCANO ERUPTION-1883 A.D., CRACKED ONE FOOT THICK CONCRETE
AT 300 MILES, CREATED A 3000 FOOT TIDAL WAVE, HEARD 3100 MILES AWAY,
SOUND PRESSURE CAUSED BAROMETERS TO FLUCTUATE WILDLY AT 100 MILES
INDICATING LEVELS OF AT LEAST 170-190 DB (P) AT THIS DISTANCE OF 100 MILES
EVEN WHEN SHOUTING IN SOMEONES EAR, COULD NOT BE HEARD AT 100 MILES
CAUSED FOG TO APPEAR AND DISAPPEAR INSTANTLY AT HUNDREDS OF MILES
ROCKS WERE THROWN TO A HIEGHT OF 34 MILES. DUST AND DEBRIS FELL CONTINOUSLY FOR 10 DAYS AFTER BLAST. PRODUCED VERY COLORFUL SUNSETS FOR ONE YEAR, EJECTED 4 CUBIC MILES OF
THE EARTH. CREATED ANTI-NODE OF NEGATIVE PRESSURE AT THE EXACT OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE EARTH.SOUND COVERED 1 / 10 OF THE WORLDS SURFACE, SHOCK (SOUND) WAVES “ECHOED” AROUND THE EARTH 36 TIMES AND LASTED FOR ABOUT A MONTH! -REF.19.

My system does that too! [Big Grin]

How exactly do yo measure negative dB BTW?

I think that may be why people don't live near volcanos...or at least active ones. [Big Grin]

yes it would kill most anything exposed to 194+.

194 is the max for a true sound wave. however that is not the case for a shockwave....the shock wave if you noticed has a particle speed of 180mph iirc. That kind of wind speed generates a lot of shrapnel.

Anyone notice the 47 million psi?

Good god that volcano eruption had impressive effects!

Hahahaha. [Smile]

It's not hard to believe at all to me. There are more ways to measure sound than the Termlab.

A lot of the chart is likely estimated. If we know what the sound pressure level of a 20, 80, 200, MPH wind is, we could likely estimate what 600 MPH winds will do.

Same principles applies with the van comment. If we know what 1, 5 or 10 sealed twelves can produce with a certain amount of applied power, we could likely determine what 20 twelves can do.

I don't know, I used to do all my testing sitting in my car, and it never bothered me. I also used to stock my head in the port. Boomin' Taurus had a picture of it a long time ago. I miss those days. [Frown]

194 dB is the theoretical limit for a sine wave at normal atmospheric pressure. At that SPL wave, it is not the compression that is an issue, it is the expansion stroke. To create 194 SPL with a perfect sine wave, the back stroke would have to create a perfect vaccum, which is darn near impossible to do with a woofer. Now by increasing the compression of the front stroke, and keeping the back stroke at the same level of vaccum, higher SPL levels than 194 can be achieved using a sine wave source, it would just not be a true sine wave output. A shockwave caused by an explosion, is essentially a very high region of pressure, followed by a lower region of pressure (still higher than the normal static pressure of the air). This would be the same as just playing the first part of a sine wave. Push the woofers out just once then back to rest. This can be measured as SPL, but is misleading as you are taking the maximum pressure relative to the after pressure. The damage caused is due to simple pressure differences in air. If you create a simple pressure increase of 6-8psi (typical of a normal mild turbocharger), if that acts over a 1 sq ft area, then that is like putting a 1152 pound weight on that area, thus you can see where explosions, with pressure changes on the order of 20-40 psi can create massive damage.
