Hey all, I have an extra computer power supply lying around and was wondering if I could use this to power a car audio amplifier for home use? I have a hifonics centurion 100 watt x 2 amplifier with a 30 amp fuse.

Also, can car audio amplifiers handle over 12 volts? Let's say if I put 200 volts to it, would it not blow? Thanks for the help!

Would it work if I hooked up 2 or more computer power supplies to give me around 200 watts?

BTW the computer power supply I have is rated at:

5 volts / 25 amps
12 volts / 4 amps
3.3 volts / 16 amps

depending on which wires I use..

What's this asking question business??? [Confused] If you're a real man, just hook it up and see what happens [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] ...I really doubt anyone on here has tried it anyway.

12 volts is what you'd need, and 12 volts, at 4 amps (thats a rather weak powersupply btw) is 48watts, so, in reality, you could get about 30watts of output power from your amp, so 15 watts per channel... WOW!!!

Haha, 15 watts is better then 0 watts [Wink] I found another power supply that can get me around 20 watts a channel. [Eek!] I figure I have this amp lying around, 2 dayton 6.5 classic woofers and 2 1 1/8" silk tweeters and the power supplies, might as well do something with them. I'll let you know how it goes and sounds. [Big Grin]

I just hooked it up and tried it and it works beautifully. With just about 20 or so watts the speakers get decently loud.

No thanks to the power supplies, I'm just doing this because I have the parts lying around. Thanks anyways. [Big Grin]
