Topic: do subs in a wall configeration sound alot differant than facing up
well as some of you know I am going 2 a wall setup for my 2 18"MT, and am in the process of selling my 2 18" XXX now I understand that a wall will be MUCH louder and more intense sounding that with the woofers facing up but what are the sound differance. same subs, same power, and same size enclosure/tunning/port area. will it be deeper not as deep, will you hear more distortion. any first hand input would be great. thanks Mike -------------------- (4) 18" MT in a wall (2) Soundstream XXX6500 (1) pissed off wife Team H.O. I can't speak from experience...but I've noticed in most cars I've heard, that walls seem to have more pressure than a similar setup not in a wall...like when you stick your head in the car it feels like your eardrums are gonna pop. -------------------- Roffles...

I would think that alot more rattles would be heard from facing them up. The wall should be so loud you can't hear anything lawl. -------------------- Steven Tyler integra 2006 WF 2nd place 129.9 bassrace JVC Arsenal KD-AHD39 HD Radio/CD Receiver Alpine type-X comps Havn't picked out the amps or subs yet.

every floorbox setup i have heard has been loud than walls. Walls move more air but floorbox cause more pain from what i've expereinced. -------------------- Your truely, NC_BassHead

If you think about it the point from the front of a wall to the base of the windshield will be different than a floorbox with the same equipment. I would say walls typically have less air in the cabin (the airspace in the vehicle between the wall and windshield) which makes pressure typically higher. Floor boxes have a longer space (from subs to windshield) to pressurize the area which I think would change the resonant frequency of the vehicle. They also have more cabin area to pressurize which will change acoustics and frequency response. With your vehicle and type of system, you might want to talk to Meade916 on here as he would be able to give you better info and ideas. I hope that wasn't too confusing. -------------------- 95 Sonoma Ext Cab 4.3L 5spd SLAMMED! i've had both and a lot of it depends on the port placement. Port across the top in a wall makes it much more enjoyable for both passengers. There are also a lot less rattles which is a huge plus in my books. I like walls better than boxes only if port is across the top or down the middle. Sub pass and port driver is horrible for passenger all you get is ear hurt and no real enjoyment. -------------------- 2 APXX 15's 1 Atomic 5000.1 Iraggi 300amp Alternator 5 batteries 150.1 at 30hz.

yeah you get sore ears but poorer sound quality and a lack of roll, it's way more daily friendly with port across the top. -------------------- 2 APXX 15's 1 Atomic 5000.1 Iraggi 300amp Alternator 5 batteries 150.1 at 30hz.
