The spray-in bedliner would stiffen the metal greatly. Not sure how well dynamat would stick, or if you would need it.

Just remember, spray-on bedliner is not an approved sound barrier in dB Drags. When I first considered using spray-on bedliner as a sound dampening material, I made a call to dBDRA. I was told that it did not qualify as a sound deadening material, and would be considered a modification that would prevent me from competing in any class lower than extreme (if used in the cabin area of the vehicle). When I heard that an official judge would allow the spray-on bedliner to be used as a sound barrier, I call the dBDRA office again. It was confirmed on my second call, that spray-on bedliner is still not considered an approved sound barrier. Since the removal of the bedliner would be difficult, please reconfirm with the dBDRA office before having the material applied to your vehicle...if you plan to compete in future dB Drag events.

The various brands are subject to individualized opinion. Personally, I like the dynamat brand. You can view the various product that dynamat offers, by visiting thier website at http://www.dynamat.com

Since you desire to compete in the dB Drag street class, you would want to pay attention to the rules that govern sound dampening installtion. As a quick review... "The maximum total thickness of sound damping material applied at any given location may not exceed 5/32 inch (4mm)."

Depending on the material you use, it could be multiple layers. Just check the product fact sheet before purchasing, and using a calculator (if mathematically challenged) to calculate how many layers you can use. But, also be aware, that in dBDRA street class, you are only allowed two layers at any given point. So, even if you could apply three (or more) layers of material, and still be within the 4mm thickness, you would fall outside the scope of the rules for street class.

If you plan to use the rolled mat type, then ignore the "does not require a heatgun" statement. While the product can be installed without the use of a heat gun, it is very difficult to handle. When installing mat type material, a heat gun can be your best friend (until you forget the tip is still hot, when you reach down to pick it up from the business end of the tool).

No, I'm getting the paint on stuff. I think a few coats of it on the under side of my trunk lid should kill the rattles.
