Heres what I started with. TV tuner and all. The pioneer below the screen does CD/DVD/MP3/AM/FM. Theres also an XM tuner. Fixing that gap is an obvious priority, and should be easy. Holy spaghetti batman! Test fitting the D1. The ****er has a DVD Rom drive, that does not play DVD movies. The Pioneer will be replaced with a nifty soundstream single din DVD player. (thanks Ebay)

Couldnt stop there...Had to remove the alarm too. T Taps are not teh cool. Its a shame people use them, especially on alarms. I had it out in under 5 minutes. No starter kill hooked up either. There were 4 ****ing sirens under the hood, 1 was hooked up. I cant believe the hack that put in the Viper didnt take them out...wait, yes I can.
So then I move to the other side. More pasta. I really like the slit they put in the carpet to run the RCA's to the back.
Nightmare!
Pretty much for this installment. Posts: 518 | From: SW Chicago, IL | Registered: Oct 2000

Thats everything comming out. The original install was done in 95, ala the speckle paint.
Keeping the box/subs. Just building a new truck layout, new dash, alarm etc.
Im getting old, I do this every day, but this car kicked my ass lastnight. Im sore. When I finally decided to go to sleep, my son decided he didnt want to sleep anymore. Good times.

Definatly looking for input on the lay out of the dash. Gonna have to redo it. WHat makes me mad there isnt any support left in the subdash and the D1 is ****ing heavy. Might redo the bezel and put it on the bottom and the dvd above it. But Im not sure that would look good...Any ideas? I tried to cheat and flip it over, but thats not gonna happen.

Its gonna be a lot better. Got the trim pieces made out of 1/4" tonight, gonna cut them out of 1/2" tomorrow.
Keeping the subs, but going with rockford 5002 4004 6.5's 6x9's
Im pretty much scrapping all the wire thats in there; it was obviously a hack job. The car was stolen and stripped once, and the guy says it hasnt been the same ever since. Its been a fun project. Wish I had the will to complete one on my own car. lol.
Got my shipping conformation. Got enough 0ga to redo my house, and some 4ga to redo the power/grounds under the hood. Also picked up a second yellow top for the trunk. He should be more than happy...atleast I hope. He has 2 other cars he wants done. Posts: 518 | From: SW Chicago, IL | Registered: Oct 2000

I love Imp SS I just painted one today.... I'm thinking aobut getting one myself...how did he manage to let the car get stole, they have VATS keys(thats probably why they didn't bother to hook up the starter kill on the alarm), so its nothing an amature could pull off(with 15 different possible VATS keys), and he obvisously got it back, something I wouldn't imagine a vet car theif would allow to happen... they must have towed it away? or somebody got the VIN number and got a duplicate key made at the dealer..

well the theft coulda been from a tow truck..... or just a break in thru window and take the stereo.... to many ways to hack up a electrical system
sucks to hear. electrical computer wires are realy censitive my dads suburban wires where smashed up in the car accident and he ended up spending about a bunch a piece for some special wire conectors to repair the computer system wires they where like a buck a piece for this TINY white gold plug.

Vats is super easy to bypass/steal. The idiots who installed the original alarm/remote start permanatly bypassed the VATS, but cutting the chip out of the ****ing key and soldering it to the contacts. Its the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life.
The past 2 days have been pretty uneventfull. Got the trunk set up mocked up, gonna do the final (I hope) cuts tomorrow and start on the amp racks. Posts: 518 | From: SW Chicago, IL | Registered: Oct 2000

Also, vats, passlock, pats etc is no reason NOT to hook up a starter kill, IMO. Ive done others where people not only wanted starter kill, but ignition also.
