I am thinking of adding the AudioControl Epicenter to my system. I already have an AudioControl EQS.
Anyone with personal experience with the epicenter, please post your comments and opinions.
Thanks.

no! The new epicenters are nothing like the old ones, and with a box tuned that high, could be really dammaging to your woofers. I do not recommend this product, though at my local shop which serves a lot of people in to the punchy mariachi, it can do wonders. But for all other types of music, and especially with your particular box, not gonna help get the lows back if the woofers are fully unloaded below 36 hz.

One of the other guys I work with just added one to his setup, he runs 2 12" L7s in a ported box tuned to 33 Hz powered by a 1000 w Zapco (not sure which model). His sounds ten times better after adding it, so I wanted to try one out. I know he has a completely different setup than me, but I need some opinions on a new box and subs.

What subs do you guys recommend, preferably 10s (3 of them). I will be upgrading the sub amp to around 1500 watts max (1 ohm).

What freq should I tune a new box to maximize the Epicenter's ability (preferably ported)?

Thanks again!

if tuning around 33hz you should be ok, i know the old ones had a subsonic filter @30hz.

i still dont like them, even though we sold a ton of 'em.

ok if you listen to ALOT of music with no bass info below 70 hz, but with modern rock and rap- it's yucky.

The factory chip for the PFM filter is 33 hz, I was going to try that out first. If that doesn't sound too good, I'll get a higher freq chip.
Thanks for the input

oh yeah heres a tip...being that the epicenter is new to u..play with the wide knob....do not i repeat do not touch the sweep knob....if u love your subs dont touch that knob...it will change your center freq....it comes set from the factory at 33hz...if u mess with that knob be4 u know it u will have your center freq set at 27hz and then u will be turning the restoration knob all the up because u feel u dont hear any restoration but when u look at your sub it jumping like a mexican jumping bean in a frying pan..

Check out Ebay store, Finest Deals. They have em for about 125.00 plus 20.00-25.00 shipping.
I might get one from another dealer down here for 150.00. if that doesn't go through I'll pick it up online.

I got the Epicenter about a week ago, just barely took some pics. I temporarily installed it with my current setup. It is a cool piece with some songs, especially older rap (Ice Cube, Dre., etc.), it can make those songs sound a lot better. However, with rock and some newer music the effect isn't as rewarding.

I mounted the Epicenter gain knob in my ashtray. I drilled a couple of holes so I could move the LED and mount my bass gain knob for my sub amp.

The new ones are awsome compared to the old ones. Just heard one today not half the distortion you would get from the old ones.

I drilled an extra hole to mount the bass gain knob for my sub amp there and moved the light to the top right.

I've always liked the Epicenter, and it's older cousin for Home, both very effective especially on poor recordings.
As my learned colleagues mentioned above, it can be dangerous in the wrong hands.
If I recall from the old manual, there was some vague warning about that issue, something to do with Madonna, and if the unit wasn't used properly, it would cause huge green monsters to rise from the deep sea, and devour San-Diego..,so push da button [Wink]
