I just get everything put in yesterday, and today I'm changing tracks, cruising home from the grocery store, and some lady makes a left right in front me. Here's my question: I have LIABILITY ONLY, and we're both insured with American Family, so is my equipment covered? I mean does insurance cover it being reinstalled in a new vehicle or if anything is busted? Because the truck looks totalled and the cops said she's at fault. BTW, I've got custom kicks, amp rack, remote start/keyless entry/alarm, 150 ft^2 of Dynamat, and a box that'd be considered a wall. What a bummer, I wanted to post pics for you guys :-(

That truly suck man, hope noone got hurt. I hate to say it but I dont think all your stuff would be covered, I thought you had to pay to have your audio equipment to be covered. Liability doenst normally cover audio equipment.

Get ready for a nasty ass fight. Insurance companies hate paying for anything more than the value of the vehicle. Just don't back down and keeping going up the chain---and you may have some luck.

Sorry to hear! Hopefully everyone's cool. All the insurance companies i've been with automatically covered up to a certain amount (not much but it helps). Of course you'd have to prove it was in the car. I doubt they'd cover the alarm being it can be removed and installed elsewhere.
Are the kicks damaged?

that blows! just be sure to remove everything you can before the junk yard/ or holding yard takes it out and keeps it! ive heard of that happen before!
but id think if she is at fault her liability coverage should cover your car and just not hers. NOW IF they say its your fault.... your screwed unfortunatly!
realy sucks to hear! thats why i have full coverage on my truck! i wanna be protected from every aspect posible! tho im sure it helps of me having a truck since the bed will take a hard hit without geting to my stereo toys as easy!
please post some pics id like to see how bad it realy is. and ya get any pics of her car as well? just something i love to see is both cars damaged. some are funny NO PUN INTENDED! but tiny cars get raped! while the big vehicles got a scratched bumper.LOL
but i know the disapointment feeling after geting everything preaty set and then having a problem like my amp burning out next day after instaling the new box that sucked!
just think about whats next........ new car. new instal, maybe even new equipment
i sometimes wish someone would steal my truck and strip it to the ground just so i could collect and buy a already moddified truck that just needs a stereo. i love my interior BUT i got the old motor style i still wish i spent the extra 3K and bought the premodded bagged/caddy swaped truck

Man, I don't know if I've got the energy to do another install after seeing this happen. Plus school starts in 3 weeks. The kicks don't seem to be damage BUT... There was bunch of smoke. I don't know where it came from accept under the hood for sure. None of the equipment turns on, I just don't even want to mess with it right now. I should know in the next 24 hours if her insurance is accepting fault... I have feeling they should: I was on the main street, and she had a stop sign on the side street. Another question: the truck had existig body damage to the passenger side of the bed (the accident happened on the driver's side) Do they subtract that from the value of the truck?

DON'T SIGN ANYTHING, until you are happy. If it her fault, you are home free. They might try to tell you they don't pay for accessories, but in this case (the other drivers fault) they may not have a choice. Tell them you will hire a lawyer if you have to.

o ya definatly dont sign anything... think realy hard and make sure your comfortable with the settlement they offer if not TURN IT DOWN ASAP...... they will definatly not start out willing to pay ya what its worth! start talleying everything up and make sure you get whats its worth. and bust out all your pics... I HOPE YOU TOOK PICS OF EVERYTHING youve done! i know ive got pics of every mod ever done to my truck just incase of this situation! with pics they cannt deny anything! tho if you can remove your equipment id remove it! test it out at home! hopefully its just the deck and maybe the remote wire broke off..... or it blew a fuse under the hood. you can never be to safe...... just wire it up at home and HOPEFULLY it will all work! if not well at least ya tried. just if you can BUST OUT A VIDEO CAMERA and have someone tape you removing everything so you can prove it was in the vehicle at the time of the accident!!!!!

hrmmm, that suckx dood, hope all is well, in my experience my insurance only covred the value of my car pluss 1000$ inside the car. Most insurance companey fail to tell you that the contence of you car is covred under home-owners insurance. So, you might halfto file a claime under your house insurance to get coverage for your stereo. This is how the insurance thing works where iam from. And if you want your stereo covred under your car insurance, you gota get recpits and pictures of the equipment permanatly installed, and i belive, my insurance was 36$/month per 1,000$ of equipment. Just something to look into in the future. Hope all goes your way!

Just to put in my couple pennies, it's called comprehensive insurance along with the car insurance, I don't have it and such but it would cover that type of stuff. You pay for a certain 'bracket' of how much the stuff costs. If I, or many others had this we'd have triple the insurance costs. Best of luck to you

Funny enough, I was already going to inure everything - $160/month for $12k of coverage on the 'communications devices'. But they wanted to look at it all complete, so I hadn't insured it when the accident happened. I took 2 or 3 rolls of film of the instal,, so no worries there :-) I'm going to give them hell tomorrow - it's been 10 days with no word from them. Evertime I call he blows me off.
There's not much to look at and I just don't have a lot of time to post pics...

I have State Farm. Paid for Liability in my Caprice and Comprehensive. Supposedly the Comp coverage covered everything. My amp got stolen.
I had my amp bolted in the trunk, with pics of how it was installed and they said that it was 'installed' ,as in wired up powering subs, so they didnt pay.

This man knows what he's talking about. I've had several fights with insurance companies and I can tell you DO NOT give in to their BS if they give you any. Get a lawyer if you have to. If the police label it he fault you are not liable for the damages of any sort.
I had my car broken into and completely stripped while at a body shop getting repaired from an accident. The shop had the same insurance as I did and I got $4200 out of the deal plus they fixed all the damage for free. Not bad at all IMO since I didn't have that much in my gear but they had to pay full price of replacement including install. I upgraded after the fact but my car never recovered from the complete interior destruction. It rattled all the time after that.

Good luck with Ins even if it was her fault. I have been getting blown off for the past 2 weeks by the other driver (who was at fault) ins (Direct general ins) and even by mine (state farm) whom I have not only full coverage but extended values instead of 10/20/10 I have 100/300/100. But my truck is an 89 and even though it is fully customized they estimated total loss value at 2425 and the repair estimate was 3800. Oh yea and on the attourney kick Good luck with that also If you were not injured they are not interested there is no money on property loss claims. I have called my fair share this week none are interested.

Don't accept that quote if it was her fault. My wife was rear ended and totaled her civic. The tried to quote her the lowest blue book value for the car but I told her to tell them to find her the exact same car with the same mileage and condition with the exact same equipment package for that price and she would buy it...they gave her much more for the car after that. We also settled out of court for $20,000 on personal injury... Posts: 3279 | From: North Little Rock, Arkansas | Registered: Apr 2003

Alright, I'm back! It sounds like there's a lot of horror stories out there. I hope this is an encouraging one. Pics are at the bottom, as requested.
It took five weeks. The adjuster's went on vacation or were out of the office, one after another, each for a week. There were four different adjusters on the claim. I called up a storm. Anything I could think of, I called about it. I called the other parties adjuster, I called my adjuster. I called there boss. I called the physical damages adjuster. I even called the salvage yard where they wanted to tow the truck to look at it. Eventually I called my agent about it. Finally, I got a call from a guy I hadn't talked to before, another adjuster, who wanted a statement. I thought about it, then called him back and gave it to him. He asked a bunch of questions, and slipped in one REALLY important one in the middle: "How much time did you have between when you knew you would hit Mrs. X and when you actually hit her?" 1/2 sec was the answer, but after I got off the phone I realized that was their angle, that wanted to try and say I was neglagent. So 15 minutes after I got of the phone I got a call from the adjusters' boss (this is now 4 weeks after the accident) - he and I laughed about what a bunch of bullsh*t the ladies story was, and he told me they'd be taking full liability. They wanted to tow the truck away, but I eventually talked to a 5th adjuster and we decided they'd better just come look at the vehicle at my house, because I made I big issue of knowing EXACTLY who would be responsible when something disappeared out of the truck, blah blah blah... The physical damags adjuster came over at 8 am two days later. He was really nice, and wrote me a check that morning - $3400 to cover the blue book on the truck plus sales tax, minus existing damage(it needed a new bed from a previous accident). I paid $2000 for the truck so I shut up and took it. He also told me, "Just get me some paperwork for the file" so that he could cut me a check to cover the stereo. I warned him it would be $10k+. I spent the weekend getting stuff bench tested and getting estimates. I called on Monday, then Wednesday, to find out the guy was 'out of the office.' But a week later he called then came buy at 8am again, and told me to get my calculator. I put it on the table for him and he said, "Oh go ahead and start adding it up." He wrote out the check with my name. "Thirteen nine seventy-five, thirty-eight," I said when I finished, my throat sticking from being dry. He wrote out the amount on the check, handed it to me, and said, "Wow, that was a nice stereo you had." "Yeah, top of the line. Thanks for your help," I told him, and walked him out.
