Ok, I am not really that knowledgeable with stereos. I own a 98 JGC Limited 5.9 and spend alot of time on a Jeep forum. Well after accidently wandering into the stereo section I persuaded myself that I needed better sound. I posted this over there but figured due to higher volume I would post here too. This is what I came up with.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok 1998 JGC 5.9 Front:CDT HD 62 DT 6.5" Comp Set $225.00 Rear/soundbar:CDT CL6XB 6.5" Braxial Set w/ CL6X Rear Fills $155.00 Amp: Rockford Fosagate G800.4 - $299 HU: Clarion HX-D10 - $299 Steering Wheel Control: From www.autotoys.com $58.50 Some sound deadening from www.sounddeadeningmaterial.com about $1 a foot The amp measures 18 7/16 X 2 7/16 X 9 7/8 will that fit under the rear seat? Also, can someone who really knows what they are doing tell me what else I need to do the install - such as I know that I need a seperate 60 amp fuse and fuseholder for the amp because it says so, but what other little things like that will I need? Even footage and gauge of wire would be helpfull. I am going to have to try to do most of this install myself as I cannot possibly afford the local dealer charges. If you dont think I can do this myself then tell me and maybe I can least strip the car down and remove old speakers, and HU and save some. Ok, as far as sound deadening I have read much, but would like to know exactly what I should do and how much I need to purchase then. Just a patch on all the front doors and then some on the hatch? I am probally going to try to remove all my seats and carpet etc for the install, is it worth it to lay some on the whole body? I never should have ventured out of the regular forums - now look what I have done. So who is willing to help with the install -vacation in MT, free place to stay - I will even provide a motel for a couple of days and great skiing. Rumble
Someone I trust over there just told me not to go with the clarion, clarion sucks. What else should I go with then in the range of 250 to 325?

well the equipment mentioned seems to be top notch so no problems there. as for the other things such as guage and things its not too hard although noone starts of knowing these things.
as for installing these simple things such as the speakers and HU well thats REALLY easy it just takes practice and even for ur fist time its EASY all u need is patience and the installation manual. (easy)
now for the "hard" part well the sound deadening. noone can tell u how much u want/need. why???? because thats all up to how good ur car is origionally sounddeadened and how quiet u need it to be plus how effective the deadener is. (i dont know how good each is) so what u should try is to buy enough for one layer...(take rough sq ft measurements plus extra) and try to cover a bucket with the sound deadener on the inside and have an identical bucket next to it. smack each one at a time and hear the difference. if one thuds when the other echos then the one that thuds is VERY GOOD meaning its stopping the vibrations. if it doesnt stop as much as u would like then ur going to need to order more (say 2-3 layers at the most)
any more ?'s and just ask

Ok, I like the sound dampening idea. And thanks for the response. As far as those wire gauges, I would go with 4 gauge then I think. Does every amp except every gauge of wire? And do I want 4 gauge for everything that runs into it like power, ground, RCAs, etc? And speaker wire some 14 gauge would be appropriate right? What specific brand do I want to go with and which ones. I see that every brand has like 20 different models, someone told me about these phoenix gold ones that they said were good. One more - best place to buy wires online. Thanks

Hey 5.9, you already know that i have a jeep, *sigh* i hope it gets fixed soon, but anyways, the jeeps already have sounddeadening beneath the vehicle, and inside the car on the floorpan, the only part that doesnt is under the seats, i added a layer of dynamat exctreme to that, 4sq was all that was needed. To quiet down the interior, what really needs to be done is remove the door panels, very easy, 3 screws, then pull on the panels to pop out the plastic things that hold it to the door, and then the electrical connection. I would remove the the plastic liner and install your speakers, running the speaker wire through the rubber grommet thingy, (read difficult, so use some liquid silicone to lube things up). Then put a couple of layers of deadening on the doors, seal em up real good too. The amp will fit under the seat. Take out the side paneling, run the wires in the groove there and pull the carpet back and run the into your amp. You can take out the front and rear seats to make this easier, only 4 bolts to each seat. then run the wires from the hu to the amp, keeping the power/signal wires separate. I have 1/0g in my jeep, through a stock conduit on the passenger side. Hope this helps. Or AIM at jcold2003.
