I have this problem... As you all must know I am getting a '97 Blazer and was wondering which I want SQ over just plain SPL so we're talking about 140-150DB max!!! So if I bought say one RE XXX sub as oposed to three lower line subs which would be better??? I know I would the cone area advantage with multiple but then the one good sub would make up for that in xmax!!!

I am sorry to cut in here, but if you end up getting that sub, would you be interested in selling those Max DB's? If so, shoot me an e mail at mperez@bis.midco.net

IMHO 140db is still very loud. I used to think multiple drivers are better than a single high Xmax sub. But, Im starting to change my mind. My powerbase 15 can get surprisingly loud in an aperiodic enclosure tuned for sub-25Hz extension. Cant imagine it in a ported SPL application

Well I have not decided on the sub yet... Here are some specs. If it is a single sub it has to be dual 2ohm as my amp does full power at 1ohm!!! And if it were multiple cheaper subs they will be powered with 2000watts and have to be able to handle that power!!! Garrett how's the SQ on that sub cuase they are very cheap online right row!!!

It's not very hard to get loud in a blazer. I've used an orion hcca 15d, two diamond m3 15's, one jl10w6 and one 12" (don't know who made it....factory defect on the dust cap so they were discounted but needed reglueing). All of them were plenty loud (140+ with the exception of the 10") without trying too much. All of them had an orion 250r powering them. Anyway, my point is that you should choose the setup that appeals to you most because you should reach your spl goals.

Perosnally, I've found using 2 high quality subs is more impressive than say...8. I've run just about every configuration over the years in my trucks.
I had 16 12's, 8 15's, 20 10's (yes I'm serious), 16 12's, and so on and so on. They were all VERY impressive looking and got GHETTO loud. But, with the high end subs available today, I do MUCH higher numbers with 4 15's and 1/3 the wattage.
It always impresses me to see people doing 155 + with 2 15's compared to 8 12's.

i had a single audiobahn cheapass sub with 400watts sealed and it was realy nice sounding! added another and i got alittle bit of roof flex about 1/2inch. but i droped in the single 15 brahma which gave me a good 1inch flex and now with my 18 im geting even more flex!!!

IMHO the PB extreme is a great SQ sub... in the right install of course. Clean extension down to 25Hz in my compact car. 2 words... Telarc thunder
Never tried it in a ported SPL box though, maybe some day.
I have mine crossed over at 50Hz, most of the "kick" comes from my midbass speakers, 50-350Hz
Curious, where are they available on-line? Been surfing ebay for months and only found mine and one other, from a zero feedback seller... so I passed the second one.
Watch out how you install some of the cheaper models, some (but not all) have pretty high Qts.

My buddy has two 12" SE subs with a 5 cubic foot ported box in his blazer and its hits hard. He has a jbl 1200.1 wired in 1 ohm and it sounds magnificent. RE is now having a sale for two 12" or 15" HC's for $300. I'd say two 12" HCs with two jbl 1200.1 amps and you'll be quited impressed. 5 Cubic foot ported box as well...
Even one jbl 1200.1 will make those HCs hit hard. Im buying one for my f-150...i have one SWEET system in the works right now
just my 2 cents

If your not sure if you want SQ or SPL you could go with a 15 in Orion H2 Ported to 30hz in 3 cubes of free air, it will be crazy loud and crisp to boot
