I have a 97 Expedition. All factory system w/ indash tape and cd changer in console. Also the door panals say "PREMIUM" on the speaker grills. If there is an amp where is it located, and lastly is the stock spots 6*8's alll around. Thanks for the help.

The amp is in the rear of the truck, passenger side by that little storage pocket on the wall. If it's not there, it will be on the driver side, same location, but, I am 99% sure it's on the passenger side.

VegaS10 Thanks. Have you done any work on an Expedition while leaving the stock head unit and changer in place? I was going to add a Eq but if the amp is in the rear I'll buy a crossover and mount it in the back with eveything else. Thanks again for your help.

Leave the deck alone. If ya already got a changer, ya really don't need anything else.

Forget the eq. Not even worth the hassle.

Get some REAL good 6 X 8's in the doors, throw some subs in the back, and be on your way.

To get signal for the sub amp, you will need to tap into the factory amp output lines. You can either grap this at the rear speakers (in the doors) or at the amp. If you know how to install an amp, and know how to take the door panels off, I'd simply pay for someone to add the convertor in. It is really worth paying someone just to take that back quarter panel off...lol.

If you really need to have an amp (other than fatory) running your mids, I could give you a list of part numbers you will need.

Thanks again, YES I need those part numbers. The factory amp sucks I can hear the factory system drown out all the time so I'm going to just add the 35.4 nothing big. I can do installs I actually did mine if you have a chance check out my car at www.teddyca.freeservers.com
What my plan is now is to tap into the factory amp. Since its in the back I'm going to pick up a nice crossover with remotesub level controls like the Audiobahn AX202X and setup the system from there. I already both the subs, and both amps you see in my profile for the Expo. Wiht the factory amp in the rear I have access to the remote, all speakers and room for the high/low converter. Over the weekend I ran 2 guage to the rear with a circuit breaker under the hood so the rest of the work should be in the back off the amp. I know the 2 guage was a over kill I bought it for the Stealth and was to lazy to swap out my 4 guage. Can you get any awesome deals on Audiobahn or Crossfire crossovers? Thanks again for all your help.

I beleive the Metra number is a 70-5513. This is 2 harnesses with 8 wires about 8 inches long. This contains ONLY speaker lines. Simply unplug the factory black harnesses, slide the Metra piee in, and your set. Now, to get access to the wires for other amplification, simply cutthe wires in half. Using a 9 volt battery, tap the pairs to see which end is speaker and which end is input. Tap onto the speaker side.

Sounds like you have a good plan for the crossover and remote sub gain. As for deals on Crossfire and Audiobahn, no, I work at Circuit City, we don't carry those lines.

Is this the Metra plug that goes into the Amp? You must love being at Circuit City that discount must rock. I'm a computer technician for Providian Financial and can't even have one of there high APR credit cards. HAHA
However I do have a ton of computer parts. I'm looking for the Panasonic indash DVD player. I saw it for around $475 can you get a better deal? I'm looking to sell my Eclipse and buy the Panasonic. Thanks again for all your help on the Expo thats awesome.

The factory amp has 3 or 4 plugs (I only pay attention to the 2). Anyways, the main ones you'll be working with are both black and rectangle in shape. Similar in size also. The Metra plug is made to join them together actually, but, you'll just be using the Metra plug to figure the speaker wires and polarity.

You'd be very surprised at the discount. It's usually very small and not even worth bothering with. The real magic is from accomodations frrom the manufacturers. They allow us to order DIRECT from the manufacturer. Price differnce is insane, but the wait sucks.

The amp for the expedition should be below the radio, mounted vertical with the plugs facing out the bottom of the dash. You cant get to it from up top, but it is very easy to get to the plugs after the console is out of the vehicle.

Thanks guys. I would love to get rid of that HU but my fiance loves the setup and doesn't want to replace it. When I add the eq or crossover the preouts will jump and give me a good signal to the amps. Mabeita what year is your Expo?
