A buddy of mine totalled his ride, and in his frustration sold me a couple of month old Clarion 5 channel amp (APA 5240). I was wondering if it would be sufficient to power some CV components up front, and maybe run a pair midbass drivers of the mono fifth channel. A seperate amp will be running the single JL 10W6.
thanks for any insight- -jes, in search of the SQ Civic Si ........................ It takes a lot to overpower a 8200 RPM redline....

I think that mono channel has a low pass crossover on it. It was designed pretty much for subs. I personally dont like center channels, natural imaging sounds much better to me than forced imaging, but hey, go for it!

Hrm. Do you have enough room to add a pair of JL 10" W0s? You could then use that 5th channel to power the W0s and the separate amp to run the W3/W6 Or!, you could put a pair of 8s in the door/kick-panel and run them off of that mono channel!! Front-bass rocks
I'd still run the midbass off of one of the other 4 channels on that amp, 30x4 100x1 or something like that? Should be enough to power the mid-bass drivers.
I'd keep it, if it were me.

If not, how much you want for it?

I'm vaguely trying to keep the trunk space (that's why I only have a single JL10w6), so a pair o' JL 10's are out of the picture... some eights in the front door would be cool, tho. I'm a newbie at the install arena, so could I get some suggestions or idea on how the hell I'd fit an eight inch sub into a civic door? The car has power windows & locks, which may get in the way...
A center channel still sounds like it could be interesting tho... hmm.... maybe later.

I ferget the dudes name, big surprise, eh? But, the dude with the 15" kick-panels. You might want to look at his install, just to get some ideas of fitting a larger than 6.5" sub/mid-bass/woofer in the door/kick areas. Also, I think they make quite a few slim-line 8" drivers, I know Orion does/did. I think AS&S had an article a couple months ago of how to install "big" kick-panels.
Much luck

You've got some good advice there. I can't offer much more than just to keep the amp and drive the W6 with something with more power, like an RF of MTX or the like.

Maybe you can run two channels for highs, two channels mid, and use the 5th channel to run a single 10 mono in the front of your car (a "slot loaded" eclosure would probably be best)Forget about the center channel. There's too much adjustment from CD to CD from different recordings. Then get another amp for some 12's or something and put them in the back of your car for SPL if you want. That's what I would do.
