A friend of mine wrecked his last ride and just bought a 95 S10 club cab. He had 3 JL 12W0's, a 250a2 for a sub amp, a 100a2 for a high amp and MB Quart coax for his doors.
I was mainly wanting input on the box... His first intention was to keep the box as tiny as possible. He wanted to build a wedge box with the subs 3 across facing forward. The bottom of the wedge wouldn't go past the raised floor area and the top would be very narrow and stay below the window. The jack and it's cover box would be removed and the box would go from plastic side to plastic side where they are the widest (at the base like 40 ") I took some measurements and it looked like there might be only enough space to have like .73 per driver. I had him place his seats in a comfy position and noticed I could make the box sizably larger in depth and still have space between it and the seats. This would give me up to 1.5 or 1.73 to work with. I figured this would allow for a big ported and efficient box to be done. It would also allow more space on top of the box to mount the amps and inlay them and stay below the window. My question is would the subs do best ported or sealed, and have recommendations for each. Has anyone had similar systems in similar rides? How did they do it and did it work nice? He listens to rap to country and some stuff in between. He likes bass but isn't huge on it. Every once in a while he'll through something in like Bass Mechanix to impress a crowd. Oh and the truck will be a shower. It already has 13's, about to be lowered and he already has the hydro's (but those go in later.)

A few years back CA&E did an article on a Toyota x-cab pickup with 3 JLs on the floor (facing up to the ceiling). It was the one with the dude with long hair playing his guitar in the bed (if that helps, sorry, I remember things like that more than others).
Does he have jumpseats or bench in the back? If he has jump seats, is he going to take them out?

Ber- I remember that article!! I think the guy had some kind of goofey Rear center channel too. I remember it because he was using Polk Audio for his front stage, at the time, I was also. Too bad Polk has gone downhill.....

I have a 98 S-10 ext cab with one RF DVC 12. I tried a long thin box in a similar area in my truck. I originally had 3 DVC 10's in and it sucked. I think the box was a little small, but I got more low bass from my MB quart 6.5s than I did the 10's. I then changed the front panel to fit 1 12. It was ok. The best sounding box I had was around 1.89 cu ft (sealed) running all the way up to the back of the seat. I currently have the 12 in around 1 cu ft sealed facing rearward. It has the best quality bass, but the "group delay" is bad, there is a noticable delay in the bass. Anyhow, my advice:
If he doesn't care about room, make the subs go all the way to his seat and port them.
IF he needs his space, try building a box that fires the subs down and slot loads them. This would still give him a usuable ext cab area for groceries and the like. I would have done this in mine, but the enclosure was a little too complicated. I may do it if I go to more than one 12.
Just my 1.5 cents.

I think it had fold out jumpseats... He wont be using them.
I thought about firing them down but then I'll need to put in a mirror because he'll probably want to show them. He isn't worried about much except being confy.

I got 1.8 cu/ft behind the seat of a dodge Dakota for two tens... The good old wedge design with subs firing forward... Don't get fancy and you should be able to got lots of space...

I'll give some consideration to the subs being loaded agains the floor thing. Anyone have an optimum enclosure for the 12W0? What's the best way to mount the box. I was thinking bolts through the floor like my car.
