I have a few questions that I could use a little insight on: 1. I have a pair of JL XR 5.25" seperates in the front of a Pontiac Sunfire and no rears. Will using a pair of 6.5" midbass speakers in the rear hurt the imaging in mu front stage? How about if I bandpass them between 80-350 hz? My goal is to achieve a little rear fill and possibly gain a little more midbass. 2. Would a pair of 6.5 or 8" free-air subs work better? I also have a JL 10W6 in the trunk. 3. (last one) Is there any dissadvantages in mounting my amps and EQ to the back of my sub enclosure?
Any comments would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

IM not sure about all the staging stuff but about the 3rd question I know : ) It is fine to mount your amp rack there IF it has enough room to cool and has some air moving over it. Also keep in mind that you want to keep your ground as short as possible.

You could put a pair of 6.5" mb drivers back there and it wouldn't pull your head back (rear imaging taking over). However, you could also put a pair of coaxials and have the gain turned down a little lower (I know, the gain is not a volume knob!! .) With the 10 incher back there, I'm not sure if you need an 8 for mb, if it were a 15 or larger, then yah. 6.5 should be good .
Crutchfield has a deal right now on 6.5" Betas!!!!! The damn things are cheaper/pair than most others each.

I'm using an AudioControl EQX, so I can control the rear fill's level from that. The 10" sub will (probably) be replaced with a 12"...possibly a JL 12W3. Yea, I saw the deal on the Betas and called to order them figuring at that price I could find some use for them, but alas, they are sold out....damnit. Thank anyway!

I am using an RF 800a4, giving the XRs 100 watts apiece, and the 15W4 400 watts. Sounds pretty good to me, although I am thinking of upgrading to 3 or 4 12W3s and another RF amp.

Mounting equipment to sub boxes can cause problems. Especially if the box isn't a rock solid piece and the equipment isn't the best around. Just some info. If you have an awesome box and mounted RF, MTX, PG or the like to it you probably wouldn't have any problems for many years.

I'd be using a a box built by JL and mounting an AudioControls EQX and a pair of Kicker ZR/ZX amps. You think there would be any problems with those brands? How about the box itself...would mounting something to it make it less air-tight? I don't want my bas to suffer.

I wouldn't mount anything to the box myself. Even if the chances are slim to none you wont have a problem, they're still to high for me! I'm old school that way I guess.... Just not into taking chances... KISS and all....

You should be fine with the brands you mention pooch. It's the lesser quality stuff you have to worry about. I'm definatley of the opinion that if you can find another way do it though...... Well, I'm picky. hehe
