Now that my front stage is about to be settled (follow "front stage" thread), my focus is now on cleaning up the whole install.
I recently purchased two Boston 8.4LF subs and had them installed in a sealed box. I'd like to get rid of the box and install the two subs under the back seats firing forward? I assume to do it would require two custom enclosures. NOTE: I drive a VW jetta. Is this possible? how much about? and would it actually improve the bass and get it more up front?
the other customization I'd like is to actually put my amp and a ferad cap into the back seat (flush). Would this require much work ($$$)? Would back seat cushioning suffer? How would ventalation be affected for the amp?
If this all is possible - then my whole trunk will be reclaimed for my clubs and snowboards .

My friend and I put 3 RF amps in the back seat of his girlfriends civic. We built an amp rack with little ears that screwed into the metal in the seatback. You can't really tell its there when you sit down, you can however tell when you put the seat down (rack weighs around 60 pounds). If you want more detailed info let me know.

OK here goes, if something is unclear let me know, I've been known to type and not think.
First we built the amp rack out of 1/4" steel plate (we work in a machine shop so we tend to do things a little different) and welded the whole thing together. You could do the same thing with MDF, fiberglass, whatever. So we had a tray to hold the amps then we built 90 degree brackets that were welded to the sides of the tray. Next we drew an outline of the tray on the metal in the seatback and cut it out. With the metal cut away we removed the foam in the seat. Then when the tray fit in the seatback we screwed it to the metal in the seat. We put some polyfill between the tray and the seat to give it some extra padding back there. We built a trim panel to fit around the amps to give it a clean look. The only problems besides the weight, is you can feel the screws holding the amps to the tray poke your back. As for cooling the seat is down when the system is being pushed real hard. Nothing we did required to much skill (beyond the steel tray). It did take some time to get the details perfect. You could build the tray out of wood and buy angle brackets at a hardware store and not spend all that much money. Let me know if you have any questions

I'm not much of a DIY guy, but I've printed your message and will give it to the install shop and get their opinion. Thanks for your help. I did notice that there is a LOT of room on the rear deak of my Jetta that could also be use to house the amp.
I guess you've never heard of any one build a sub enclosure under the back seats? The subs only require .3 cube each (8" subs). I guess the installer could build it on the rear deck too.

Folks been known to try putting them under the back seat (hey, stop pointing at me!!) .
I've been tinkering with the idea of doing stealth with the BII by putting a pair of 8s or 10s (if they'll fit) in the back fold down seats (basically rebuild the seats as a box with padding .) Oh well, I do like the idea of mating the amp rack to the back seat. I think you could easily put subs on the rear deck, just need to brace it real well.
I think CA&E had a little car with a similar set-up with an Earthquake sub and an amp (can't remember amp brand, sorry ). It was done up real nicely too.
Much luck. Don't dream it, just be it (And it's just a jump to the left, then a step to the......[better stop before I'm banned] .)
