hello all im doing my first car 4 spl.
My ? to you guys is would it be better to run 10 woffers at 400w each or 20 woffers at 200w each?
Im looking at the MTX RFLs when they come out and running five MTX 225ho's on them.

O yeah if i run ten ill get the 2ohm, two per amp and if i do twenty ill get the 4ohm
and run 4 per amp

Let me know what you think....

Hmm I would think 20 would be louder because of the major cone advantage. 400watt 10's "wow" go for 20!

Well, I would have to burst your bubble, BUT theoreticly with ten 10"S you would have a 3db advantage from power but -3db from 1/2 the cone area... Its the opposite for the 20 10"s -3db from 1/2 the power but +3db from double the cone area... However in real life IMO the 20 10"S would have an advantage... This is speculation so don't quote me on it... I suggest starting with 10 unless you can double you power, then 20 would give you a +6db advantage and be really cool, you will need a LOT of air for the box so with that in mind go with 10 and have room for a passenger, crusin with chicks rocks...

I feel more the the better. If 20 tens gust dosn't do it then with less mods to the system you can add more amps and get the power you realy need.

I would do the 20 10", if for nothing more than the good old fashioned "WOW" factor. Most people will look at the car with 20 ten inch subs before they will look at the one with 10 10's.

Which shop in Green Bay do you install? Just curios to see what another WI shop can come up with for SPL.

Usac pro: Do you work at the soundworld by laCrosse? If so, do you remember a kid by the name of Mike Matyas with a pinkish purple mazda lowrider with 4 10" punch power dvcs? He is one of my good friends. Just curious when you said you worked at soundworld in lacrosse.

John - the total power seems the same in both setups, just divided into more cones.
The extra area will give the advantage since the subs wont move twice as far with twice the power....

Using the overpriced RFL subs will gain you nothing in SPL unless you're planning on sending them AT LEAST 750 watts each. With the 5 amps you said you will use, you would be louder with 20 of the 3000 series subs by MTX, as they work much better at that power level.
