I so far have these components for my '94 buick regal: Panasonic dfx-99 or something like that for a deck, Linear Power x03 for a crossover, linear power pa2 for an eq, linear power 2.2 hvs for the components, Linear Power 3.2hvs for the subs, and as for the speakers jl xr series 6.5 components and 3 12w3's. Now has anyone done any installs in this car or type of vehicle? So far I have created a custom trim piece for the panasonic deck so that it will be flush and haven't the slightest on where to put the crossover and eq. Also on the subs I don't want the trunk to be the main focus of attention when I go by. How many layers of dynamat does it take to keep a trunk lid quiet? Should I port the sub box? I also was thinking of porting the sub box through the rear deck where the 6x9's are and using 6" ports. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you are in the market for a good bandpss box. Alternatively, Eli47 recommends quite often that one build a section on the front of their box to funnel the sound through the rear deck. Imagine a bandpss with the top of the front ('ported') chamber completely open with no port tubes.
I've seen either work well. If you go for the bandpass, get it made or at least designed by someone with LOTS of experience!!

I talked to jl and they said bandpss boxes for 3 12w3's would be very difficult. All I want is a good sound quality vehicle with a little extra in there for spl. wow bandp****is censored!

Sounds like you are a big fan of Linear Power! Good stuff, I know that for a fact.

Bandp-ss boxes are a little on the huge side, and I think that if you had a BP box for 3 twelves, then that would definitely take up most of your trunk. I can't mentally picture a '94 Regal, but I bet they are a midsize to small size car that doesn't have a lot of trunk space to begin with.
Have you ever considered chunking the spare tire and going with a spare tirewell box? You may have to make a false floor to add some depth to the box to provide enough airspace for 3 twelves. There may even be enough room to sink your amps into the floor for a flush fit. Grill the subs and cover the whole floor with a carpet mat, and you have a stealth, but boomin' system.

on the contrary, the regal is a midsize to large car Mack, the trunk floor is fairly flat to the seat backs and they have a large rear deck to get the port up to. I agree though that a tri 12 Bandpa ss will be huge and you'd get a nicer sounding respone from a sealed box and perhaps more SPL from a ported box. My 2 cents worth.

I've got a '90 Olds Toronado Trofeo, which probably has a similar trunk setup. I'm currently redoing the whole system, but I'm putting 3 12" MTX 5000s in a sealed box against the rear seat (might end up being U shaped) and am venting the rear deck. The spare, jack, and storage area came out and I'm going to use that for my amp rack. Then I'm just going to find a way of nicely covering the spare and finding a way of securing it to the floor of the trunk in case of emergencies. That's all in the works though. Just trying to give a couple of ideas.

The Regal's trunk area is huge in comparison to the area's where i usually have to work with. I was originally going with 4 12's straight across. That's 8.00 cu.ft and it would've been flush with the rear tire wheel wells. I also was looking at the back where the seat backs are attached to the frame and they're held on through a couple of bolt's and i was thinking about maybe attaching the baffle onto that and just buy bigger bolts and so you have a box that is bolted to the frame and your seat backs are still connected. I figure there's a good inch of separation between the seats and where the wood goes. What do you guys think worth a shot?

Yes I'm a huge fan of Linear Power. I wish i could see thunder's and Ray's van. Has anyone gotten to see it on here? Ray told me how the subs were arcing and they only had it at about 1/2 power (wow).

I'd go with the 'directed baffle' then to make the low frequency music flow into the car and not pump the trunk.

Sounds good, Duckyboy! It would seem to me that if the subs had the whole trunk to play into, it would lose some precious Db's.

I have some pics of the van that Thunder (jimmy) sent me the other day. They are awesome. I will forward them to you if you want.

Well I agree with everyone on the bandp-ss box, and Linear Power Rocks....

I just want to catch the one thing that no one answered. "How many layers...." Answer many times it doesn't matter how much you put on. You might consider mounting a peice of MDF to the lid. Of course cover it and make it look good.

Thank you Dukk, I agree a "directed baffle" or "bass vent" would work well in that car. By sealing off the front wave of the sub from the trunk, the overall airspace of the car will increase, to include any seepage into the trunk area which is not affected by the subwoofer. It's also the most effective way to eliminate trunk rattle, and increase performance of the sub system.
