im working on an instal of and rfl in my dodge daytona. im new to the high SPL subs but have experiance designing boxs and need some help. im working with an mtx 4501 amp so have roughly 3000 watts to work with. i need lots of bass but need it to sound somewhat good, which i hear is hard to do with an rfl. i have heard about cuting a set of spiders out but can not figure out what a spider is. i have about 10 cubic feet to work with. thanks for the help

being VERY careful with a razorknife. I'm not telling you to do this or necessarily suggesting it. Just telling you one way to cut it.

I have done this many times on my RFLS.
there are 4 double layer spiders. (2 sets of 2). Each set is seperated by about 0.5" because one set is on the top of the spider plate, and the other set is on the bottom.
If you cut, cut only 1 set.

Cutting these will usually make the sub more efficient, but handle less power, and can make it play lower, but not as clean sounding.

For the best sound, I have found that leaving the spiders intact is best on these subs. Just tune the box correctly and they can sound decent.

I think that may not be enough depth behind the sub.
They do like a big angle behind the sub going towards the port.

well, if you're looking for that much power for that price, you'll DEFINITELY be looking for something used. otherwise plan on about $800

i was lookin at a new hifonics bxi2401, or i think it was that model for 350 on ebay new. but i instaled the box las night and there is something wrong with sub. the voice coil is rubbing on the part of the magnet that that it slides over. iv tried loosening the con and moving it but nothing will work. so now it sounds really bad. i have 2 brand new rebuild kits and tried a new one but it has the same problem. anyone got any ideas how to fix it, did i instal the new cone wrong maybe? thanks for all the help!
