Im building a blow-through for a customer that has two 10" cvx's

Its going in a 1999 Ford F-150 single cab and he wants it to be a blow-through box.

Do you guys recommend I build a bandpass box or ported into the cab?? I've never worked with CVX's before so any help would be appreciated..
Any suggestiosn on tuning frequencies.. volumes.. etc would be appreciated.. Thanks for your time!!

Kicker is usually right on when it comes to there spec's:

http://www.kicker.com/06/tech-support/manuals/manuals/2006/2006%20CVX%20Sub%20a01%20WEB.pdf

I have done blow thru's on trucks close to the same size and have always done ported. If it were me I would build the deep bass enclose as they call it.

1.75 per sub with 2.5"w x 10.5"h x 20"L port. So total port area would be 5"w x 10.5h x 20"L.

Really so building just a ported box with the port for the most part outside the box going into the cab?? would the subs be best firing rite up against the back of the cab? or facing back toward the tailgate?

With those specs it looks like the enclosure would be a single chamber for both subs.. would that be better than individual chambers for each sub??

Does anyone have any experience with building a bandpass box for a CVX?? Or any reasons why a bandpass would be better for my situation?? or should i just stick with it ported??

Thanks for your help poprockss!!

Yes It would be a single chamber with one port. I would build an enclosure for the box to sit in sealing the sub box from the rear of the truck and have it firing into the cab. I would face the subs forward and the port to the side. So you'd be making one big box with the front of it open and the other box would sit in it. Your welcome, anytime. When I get a chance I will sketch something up for you and post pics here.

Wow okay i think i get it now.. i really appreciate u taking the time to sketch that up for me... when i get some time i'll sketch it up a final kinda box and post it to see if you think it'd work well.. so it looks like this would be a BIG hole in the cab than right?? the subs would actually be firing in as well?

i think the customer was expecting a "cut-through"? maybe i worded it wrong.. which would be a hole just for the port to fire in?

If the customer is cool with doing a hole that big i'll deff go with it..

oh yeah and woudl i slide the box all the way up to the cab or just up to the hole in the bed...

thanks!

Well, yea in order to get full potential from the subs a complete cut through would be best, basically your building a small trunk for the box to sit in, and completely seal it off from the bed! [Smile]

I have great success with this type of box as well, as long as you adhere to the manufactorer specs.:

Yeahh ive built alott of boxes like that second picture with an L7 8" it fits perfect and sounds greatt!!

but this customer is being stubborn.. he already has these 2 cvx 10's behidn his seat in a sealed box that sounds like crap.. which i have yet to determine why because its kind of hard to mess up a sealed box..

I dont think i'd be able to fit both CVX's in a ported box behind his seat.. thats why we were gonna do a cut-through..

how do you think a 4th order bandpass would sound?? with just the port firing into the cab??

I suggest a 4th order bandpass in the bed with it ported into the cabin. Should be a good 30^2" port, so a good 6x6 cut out, easy to weld back into place if you want to sell it. Works insanely well and it is extremely efficient.

Typical ones that work well with 10s are 1cuft sealed on each woofer. Place them on opposing sides firing into another enclosure, roughly 1 cuft post port. Port should be around 25-30^2". This would mean you hav ea 5x5x10" (6.5x6.5x10 including wood depth) coming into the cabin.

Then just put some rubber around where you cut the hole, some expandafoam, shave the foam, put some bondo glass in it, sand, paint and finished.

I like to router the edges inside edge of the external port, and both the inside and outside edge of the internal. A lot of things you can do to make it look pretty, plexi back with some neon, then trigger it to the toneau cover or some other switch. You can put the enclosure in a work box, etc. Sky is the limit.

coool thanks dude! yeah I coincidentally got another customer in with the exact same truck that wants to do a blowthrough..

so next week ill be doing 2 f150's i'll try both methods one with the 4th order and one with the ported box in a second box... the ported one sounds straightfoward..

but for the 4th order do you have any suggestions on what frequency I should tune it to etc? any specific experience with the cvx's in a 4th order?

I don't have much experience with 4th order boxes so any tips or sugggestions on what to look for while designing the enclosure wud be greatly appreciated! I normally use win isd to calculate my volumes and ports.. will it work well for 4th order?

thanks for al th input guys.

I really never ran into the customer that was willing to give up the whole bed, so typically I just tried to make them understand that it would be smaller than a standard work box in the bed.

I do not trust the 4th order "perfect 4th order when you plug in the woofer specs" I tried doing it, and it tended to sound like @ss. I would stick with the 1cuft per 10/12 sealed, with around a post port 1cuft and 25si coming out @ 10" depth. I forget what it is tuned to.
