OK, I have a stupid question but I will throw it out. I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate P110S8. It is a single voice coil rated at 150 RMS. It was given to me so why not play around with it. I want to put it into a 97 civic with 227k plus miles so this is not a fancy setup. I am going to use it as a test bed into fiberglass. My son has a 2008 civic that I want to do an install in and do not wish to mess it up so I wish to learn first.
I do not want to spend money on new speakers or buy a second sub to provide a 4 ohm load I simply want to see what I can do with box design and see what sound will be produced.
Now my question: How will the 8 ohm from the speaker affect a 4 ohm load coming from the AMP. Will I see signifigant power decrease? (In other words will it work in reverse direction by decreasing the amp output as opposed to taking a 4 ohm load and dubling power via a 2 ohm load) Will it hurt the amp running an 8 ohn load? If so can I force tha Amp to provide an 8 ohm load? How would I present this to the Amp? Is there a way to even do such a thing? If not what will happen if I provide a 4 ohm load to the sub?
Thanks, Jeff

you shouldn't have any issues running at 8ohm.

Thanks again. You seem to be the one who answers all my questions. After all the help you provided over in the troubleshooting thread and me fixing it, he took all of a week to upgrade. Now he put in an Alpine head unit with Pioneer 6 1/2 in the door and Alpine 6 1/2 in the back. LOC no longer needed.
We have his sub box secured to the middle of the trunk but it is in the way of accessing his spare tire. I moved it as far back as I could but it still makes it a pain should he get a flat. I want to do a fiberglass enclosure in his rear corner so I am going to try this out in the old civic first. I have been spending a bit of time over in the fiberglass forums learning. Now to apply. Thanks again. I will let you know how it turns out.

Like D-bass said that should be fine. The amps put out is decided by the woofer that it is connected to. so if you have a 8 ohm woofer the amp runs at 8 ohms.
P.S. i read your other tread about taking out a head unit from a civic. i know a web site that gives decent instructions on how to take most newer models of civic dash boards out but i was out of town when i read the tread and did not have it with me. If you still need it just PM me.

Metra online also has a pretty good section about how to take most dashes apart. Just punch in what kit you need and then click on instructions.
